I bet there will be a hundred replies of "Go POPO!" &" these people are just dirty whiners/communist/socialist/hippie scumbag blah blah blah and they deserve it. "
Just a warning that if you want to be sure to get FLAMED beyond all recognition, this seems to be the topic of choice. Why would you do that to yourself? Glutton for punishment?

I have no other contribution to this thread for fear of being called a "COMMIE SOCIALIST POS" Etc. etc. As you may have guessed I support the OWS. But the real ignorance thrown at them lately just makes me want to not even respond to these threads anymore. Oh and funny how they think they're all trying to get Obama re-elected, as if Obama has a socialist bone in his body, oh wait he does!!! If the socialism is thrown at Corporate Fat a$$#$! So Well, then I guess he is a socialist, of the absolute worse kind. I rather deal with a humanitarian socialist who want to help the small guy then cast a vote for a corporate socialist shill like OBAMA, do most people not see how retarded the reasoning is to think we want Obama again 4 more years of corporate socialism? HAHAHA!!! I think not!

i hear what your saying..
but reality is you and everyone who support ows need to keep spreading the word. every day it continues more and more people open their eyes, eventually enough people will be aware of the issues that we will have a bigger chance at making change.

Wow, these misleading titles are getting old. Watched the video, didn't see the Offices getting out of line, no one being "run over with a scooter an beaten". All I see was one brave little thug with his face hidden behind a blue bandanna at the :43 second mark, and another Officer telling the protesters to stay on the sidewalk, then at the 2:07 mark an Officer help a protester off the street, (gasp) and the Officer did not arrest him. So where was the Officers out of control?

I doubt they'll bring out the horses. Not enough of them as most are relegated to park duty.

Well, that and possible lawsuits if a horse got out of control in the crowd.

I've been hit by a car, accidently ran over by a bike and walked on by a horse.

The horse was the worst by far.

Vehicles for the most part roll over you...a horse stands on you for a second or two.

I hear what you're saying, But I've had enough verbal abuse in my life...so I will stop short of being called a dirty hippy/socialist/commie/Obama supporter/smelly/entitled/welfarequeen/immoral/lazy/fat/worthless....I could list all day, in fact these people on ATS have me feared of being involved with the protest in my town for becoming a target for violence from them on the street. :/

Also I want to make very clear I was never going to vote for Obama And I had heard about the Black Panthers sitting in front of the buildings where they had the polls opened and using thuggary to make people vote for the POS so guess what? I didn't vote. I don't care if you call me racist, but I am sorry neither he nor Herman Cain are intelligent enough to run the country without their strings being pulled by corporate pigs.
Whoever needs Affirmative Action The NAACP, EEOE, and tests being changed in school systems to get anywhere in life, has no business talking about how "They rose above" anything, nor does it show me they are anywhere near intelligent enough to be where they are. That is facts.
ETA: And certainly a person who relies on Black panther thuggary should not be in office.

The word "occupy" is lifted from the Palestinian playbook. The "Occupy" movement has a not-so-well-hidden directive to advance the cause of the Jihad. The "Occupy" protests in Miami have as their spokesman, Muhammed Malik.

Occupy = Jihad

Those that participate in this phony movement laboring under the notion that they represent freedom and democracy and standing up to the greedy corporate executive, unwittingly serve in the cause of Jihad.

"Occupy" is Jihad packaged in easy-to-swallow Western candy coating.

Do not swallow the lies. You will only read this here on ATS.

A police officer in a white shirt, possibly a captain, hurled his megaphone and wound up rolling around in the street with a protestor, throwing punches. Other officers surrounded the white-shirted officer, throwing punches.

Would you care to tell me where you found the above quote? It certainly isn't in the source you quoted.

I’m sure this is going to be a big topic of discussion as it is blatant police brutality.
You mean riding over a man that had just fallen is blatant brutality? Sorry, it sounds like an accident.

The fact the man 'lost his balance' is really irrelevant,
No, if the police had pushed him down then it would be the fault of the police, if he fell accidentally then not so much fault. For me, the question is "Could the scooter have reasonably stopped in time?"

the police shouldn’t be that close to people whilst riding a potentially lethal weapon.
If the group is coming to the police lines are the police supposed to keep backing up so as not to be close to the people? Where do they stop? Jersey?

What do you guys think?
I think you're overreacting and dramatizing a situation just to stir things up.

Hopefully the man who was run over and beaten is doing ok,
Where do you get the idea that he was beaten? There were no reports of injuries to this fellow.

Some people in the OWS movement are hoping for a little violence to occur, thinking it will help galvanize the country, sort of a Kent State moment. It hasn't yet, and the police will have to be more provoked for it to happen.

That quote was definitely in the article. I must have read it a dozen times since it was first posted in a trashed thread earlier this morning. I remember clearly reading it and wondering if this was normal police behavior, to throw megaphones, and how much a megaphone must cost.

They've edited the article.

Here it is as it now is written

First Precinct Commander Ed Winski checked a protester who refused to stay on the sidewalk. When the protester came back into the street, Winski hurled his megaphone down and wound up rolling around in the street with the protester, throwing punches. Other officers surrounded the two, throwing punches. The protester was arrested.

The white shirt bit and speculation of rank has been edited out. And the bit about throwing it down to make an arrest has been edited in.

Here's the original:

Sandberg reported police clashed with some protestors, wielding their night sticks and batons. A police officer in a white shirt, possibly a captain, hurled his megaphone and wound up rolling around in the street with a protestor, throwing punches. Other officers surrounded the white-shirted officer, throwing punches.

Looks to me as he purposly placed his foot under the scooter. He is first on his side with his foot in front of the front wheel but later on it's in front of the back wheel.

Watched the video 4 times and this particular fella was not run over by anybody. I would appear that he dropped to the ground or was already on the ground next to the scooter and proceeded to flail like a baby sticking his legs under the scooter.

The other video I saw involved multiple scooters driving in a V formation down the street. Standing in front of the scooters were protesters who refused to move. One protester looked like he got clipped by a scooter or pushed the scooter over. I saw that video on theblaze.com. He should feel lucky that he was not stepped on by a Horse from the mounted unit. Formation tactics like this are SOP for crowd control. When you see it coming, get out of the way.

Newton's first law is a bitch sometimes. Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.

The protesters may also benefit from studying Newton's third law. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. They should expect greater reactions in the days to come.

Thanks to both of you for linking the video. Now, after seeing that clip three or four times, the impression I have is that it was possibly faked.

Very little of it can be seen because of the crowd, but at about the seven or eight second mark, the protester (a legal aid observer) is on the ground screaming with both feet in front of the scooter. The officer appears to be walking the scooter very slowly and I saw no evidence that he was walking it back and forth.

So, please, help me out here. Why does that clip make you think he was run over?

I'm not one to take up for cops but i'm not sure what they are supposed to do. They are very nice and tell people to stay on the sidewalks. The protesters do not comply and choose to walk in the streets and block traffic. Once the cops finially start getting pushy and forceful thats when the cameras start rolling and the protesters look like the victims. Just wondering what the police are supposed to do in this situation. Why was that guy laying down in the first place? lol

I have seen a couple videos where the protesters jump right in front of the motor cyclists. Trying to egg them on! You ever see bullfights? Same thing. “Let’s piss the bull off”! It’s called…..Getting out of the way…!
