For the people, by the people and also judged by the people.

Write a short story about how you would see yourself while surrounded by #Occupy ___ protesters in whatever city you like.

(photo by Stephanie Keith/The Associated Press)

Would you be supportive?
Would you rail against them?
What do YOU believe is right?
What do you believe is wrong?

Post your story here.

Title must contain [#Occ]

There will be three winners chosen, based solely on the number of flags their story receives from your fellow members. Stars don't count.

The contest runs until Friday night, October 21.

Winners only will get writer status and 5 'applauses' each from me to boost your kharma and points.

The link only leads to other forums... just leave the stories here...

No...
That way, the author can't get flags.

Post it as a New Thread in the Short Stories forum and all will be #Occupacetic.

Oh cool, for the first time ever I might actually take part in one of these writing competitions. I've never really had that much of an imagination when it comes to stories I guess but this contest looks like it can be quite a bit of fun to be honest.

Quick question though - Do we need to add anything to our title, or opening post, to show we've entered the contest? For example would we have to have something like this "[#Occupy] My story title here" or do we not need to show anything at all - instead just write up and post?

Just curious is all as past writing competitions seemed to have something like this.

Good point (and I'll add it to the Opening Post).

Yes... it should have [#Occ] in the title

Thanks

Aha, ok cool. I'm glad I asked about it now.

Anyway, I'll go away and attempt to write something up now. Here's to hoping I can write up something vaguely worth posting. *gulp*

Yeah... it's hard when you've so little experience writing great threads, isn't it?

BTW

There's absolutely no reason why some of our staffers can't join in, is there?

[Hint] Be interesting to see where they stand [/hint]

I have never entered such a contest, and sometimes I think I am a bit too "plain spoken" to write something too imaginative. But I think I will give it a shot.

Thanks for a good topic!

lol, Oh but the thing is I have literally, and I mean literally, no imagination when it comes to writing these kinds of stories. Seriously It's just not there at all.

..Anyway stop trying to distract me like this. I'm working here.

'Plain spoken' works best when writing about yourself (in the 1st person). Just picture the crowd in your mind, imagine what they're on about and start talking like you're really there.

Can we write the story from someone else's perspective, other than our own? Perhaps from a well-known person's perspective?

Sure... why not?

The rest of us (that put in a story) can pretend you're talking about us then.
