i made a thread last nite with that same video last nite and it got moved.

the dude is clueless and no amount of free cash is going to fix his problems.

Now that I can agree with. This guy knows nothing about the movement. He is one of those people who are just their because they think it is cool.

he is completely ignorant as to any of the real reasons anyone is over there and has no business giving interviews and has even less business holding signs like that.

How stupid do you have to be, to agree to do an interview on a subject you know nothing about?

I will never do an interview about Trigonometry and this guy should never do an interview about OWS... Plain and simple.

edit on 14-10-2011 by gimme_some_truth because: (no reason given)

I have yet to see an interview or talk with someone who "knew" what they were talking about concerning OWS.

If you have some...please share....make a thread....and show us all the knowledgable OWS protestors.

I wouldnt say that I agree that this video echoes most of the OWS supporters on ATS. As far as the ferociousness of the stances ... I can only say that it is a lot of frustrated people looking for answers and to be heard.

This OWS is a complicated issue. You have a lot of people coming together, seemingly at random, to stand against an idea. Thier ideas of what that idea is can vary easily. I feel that the overwhelming majority of protesters are upset at the insanity of the system. The fact that the top 1% hold so much of the countries wealth, the bank bailouts, extremely high unemployment rates while industries are bringing in record profits, etc. The general idea that big business and govt dont even hide the fact that they work to benefit eachother. The people's interest is no longer on the map.

By posting a video of one kid claiming he wants the govt to pay for his college is a disservice to the people who stand for the ideas above.

But I do agree that there are a lot of people who are not only a little lost on the fact but occasionally aggressively so. That is unfortunate. But please dont lose faith in the following generations. We are building strength and we are paying attention. We just are not as loud as some of our brothers and sisters.

Actually....

It really does come from a magical money tree, and we call this tree the federal reserve. Though you may go ahead and continue to live in a fantasy world, where only "hard-working people" produce all the money, via taxes. It's just not the way it works anymore.

Not trying to be a smartass, but that's just the way it is, really.

That one made me laugh. It is a magical money tree that "creates" more money. It's amazing how many people still don't know how money really works. I try to talk about to people how we just create and print more money from basically nothing and they look at me like I'm talking crazy. When you go into detail about the Fed, people just don't believe you. It's gets especially funny when I tell them that the Fed then buys back the money they just created in Long term treasury notes, so the system doesn't collapse when no one else wants to buy their money they just printed. Their eyes get glazed over then.........

I try to tell them: you have $100 and the whole bank has $900 more, but then magically "finds" $1,000 more, how much is your $100 worth? Few people get the right answer.

Some people don't understand that concept.

Pathetic, who does this guy think he is....get a job, work hard, and earn your pay and education like everyone else. Basic principles of our country favor hard work and that you "reap what you sow". People who think their privileged like this are ruining our country. He needs a good ass kicking to get his head straight that he is not all he thinks.

maybe if he framed his reasons around the reality of why college is so crushing these days. people act like kids today are just lazy and don't want to work for their lives, but the reality is, you used to be able to work your way through college on a part-time minimum wage job. easily. actually on about only 6 hours a week.

There are countries that have higher education as a benefit. They generally do well in the unemployment numbers.

Compare this thread to another thread where the whine was about jobs that can't be filled in the US because there are not enough skilled people to do the work.. College in the US has become a commodity -- fill the seats - graduate them and collect the cash. Quality Shmallity.

Because it benefits everyone. Having an educated people should be the #1 goal of any 'free' society.

And this is the problem with these OWSers, they just "want stuff"...

Would have been nice if he had said that education is more important than funding the warfare state.

What these bozos dont understand is that in order for government to "give" you anything, they have to use the money of other tax payers or borrow the money (from the "Fed" or China etc.) which places a further burden on the tax payer.

Stop the spending, taxing borrowing and deflating of our currency so our dollar actually has some buying power. The government ruins or bankrupts EVERY program it touches. Get government out of our lives so education, health care etc. can once again be affordable and effective.

To be fair, there was a time not so long ago, when a college education was free, here in the USA.

Tuition costs seem to keep going up and up here, I think if there were going to be one perk of being a citizen of the USA it would have to be free healthcare or a free education, neither of which will happen because now these institutions have become greedy and used to being fed a large influx of cash.

Apparently there are no perks to being an American citizen. Unless you consider being a kidnapping target just about anywhere in the world outside the North American continent. :/

Thank then-Governor of California Ronald Reagan for destroying California's free tuition program.

Zing!

Maybe some of the money we put towards pet projects like the Osprey can go into education and healthcare instead.

Oh but wait that would be way to much like socialism.

And we do have educated people...but only the people who are willing to work for it and sacrafice for it.

If you REAL goal is just to be "educated"...you could do it...you don't need college. But that's not your, or OWS's real goal, they don't want to be "educated"...they want the piece of paper that gets them a better paying job. But they don't want to work for it or sacrafice for it...they just "want it".

Good luck with that in life.

The OWS protests are about more than free education. I would even say free education isnt one of the top requests at all. As I stated above ...

" They are upset at the insanity of the system. The fact that the top 1% hold so much of the countries wealth, the bank bailouts, extremely high unemployment rates while industries are bringing in record profits, etc. The general idea that big business and govt dont even hide the fact that they work to benefit eachother. The OWS protests dont want handouts ... they want and end to the corperate owned goverment and media. I dont cared what this one person randomly said.

I think this young man has a bright future in politics. I can just imagine this video coming back to haunt him later in life. I know I have thought and said stupid things as a younger man but geeze this is embarrassing. You can tell he knows he is looking stupid.
