There are some similarities but it's not exact.

The guy from the Incredibles has black gloves, black jockeys, a different style logo and he has hair.

The face and body are different also.

I'd be tempted to think it's coincidence.

Large jawed masked superheros are a fairly common sight in the cartoon world, and leotards only come on so many basic colours! Red I'd imagine would be a popular choice for the discerning men-of-steel who what to look good while getting away from the overhyped batman or superman look.

On big difference of course. SO seems to have spurned the old "underpants worn outside your trousers" look that so many mutant-savers-of-the-day tend to go for. Whether it's a fashion statement, or just that SO like to go "commando"
.. I wouldn't like to say..

It could of course be for purely practical reasons. The "underpants on the outside" brigade must have one hell of a cleaning bill..
(sorry.
)

Just an avatar? The avatar is as important as your name or your signature. It is the image you wish to present as representatvie of your philosophy, your values, your place in the cosmos. The choice of an avatar should be as carefully thought out as the car you drive, your career, your politcal affiliation, your life partner, your college. Never trivialize the avatar.

Okay... a little explaination (from someone who's worked in the comic book industry and had to deal with copyright issues:

There are lots of similar looks in superheroes. One superhero can look similar to another one as long as there's a 30% difference in appearance and a 30% difference in ability (which is why so many of them can fly, eh?)

In this case we have hair vs no hair, late-teens vs older guy, black jockeys vs no jockeys, black gloves vs red gloves, different logo.

No contest. SO's avatar meets the test completely.

How could SO's avatar be a rip off? This movie is coming out in Nov of 04

Action/Adventure, Comedy, Kids/Family, Science Fiction/Fantasy and Animation
1 hr. 45 min. An animated action-adventure comedy about a dysfunctional family of undercover super heroes, who, though struggling to live a quiet suburban life, is forced into action to save the world.
Release Date: November 5th, 2004 (wide).
MPAA Rating: PG for action violence.
Distributor: Disney/Pixar

Has the Incredibles ever been out before this? If not, then how could SO have ripped it off?

It's been called worse, but it stands for all that is good and right with the world and once you've earned the right to wear it, it's a symbol of eternal brotherhood. I could have chosen many emblems representative of me and my values, but none that means so much to me and the world we live in.

Fair enough!
(I think it's the resolution of the image. the black face detail at the top kinda looks like a nose and two little eyes, with a a white furry ear off to one side.)

seriously though. That's a fair point. What is it btw? I'm kinda guessing it's Navy related.
