I've ran into two threads just today where the OP was after email addresses. Don't do it folks. One I just came from is offering money and to get it you have to give your email. Don't do it!

On ATS?

You should alert those posts. Asking for personal information, or recruiting, or soliciting funds are all forbidden.

Saw your complaints and both times, the thread was binned by staff. If it keeps happening, bans will follow

Keep up the good works

Never putyour mail address anywhere public - the spammers are ******* (Self edited that rude expletive) lol

True story:

I used to help in an online counselinng service for poeple working on addiction. My area was with internet pornography addiction - a real and serious problem. Any way - I once put a personal email address on one of the threads I was working on. (Stupid) It took less than 24 hours before my inbox was full of spam mail advertising every type of porn you can think of.

How sick is that? Hanging arround on a support site for people who are battling an addiction to porn so that you can get their addresses and send them loads of porn! Disgsting and disgracefull.

Well done for reporting these threads OP, and reminding everyone to keep their details private.

Blaine, isn't this more of a common sense issue?

Use a throwaway email and get info then report to the proper people.

Giving out personal information on the internet is a big no-no.

Any nightmare scenario you can imagine is possible if you are gullible enough to believe in internet "friends".

Of course if someone wants my personal information bad enough I am sure they can track me down but at least I will not make it easy on them. Now-a-days almost every site you visit you first have to sign up and reveal everything and with facebook tying it all together the PTB have a goldmine at their disposal.

I guess the nsa can never have enough. Credit card hackers should be the least of your worries imho!

The owners and senior staff are the only people who can see the registration email address.

We never, and I mean never, share any of our member's email addresses with anyone and we never will per our privacy policy. Heck, we don't even automatically send out our own newsletter to our member's email addresses, we require the members to sign up for it and confirm they actually did it, it's called a "double opt in".

Unless of course you have a bad employee as has happened to a friend and client of mine who's luck wasn't so great and cost her £10k's in stock, all because of sharing data information that raised her competition instantly.

I am not making the assumption that you have any bad employees. I am stating that not all employees have users in the best interests in many businesses.

That is why I am sure your employees are on a Good Standing with you and other staff.

I have one catch all email that I post everywhere...

I then use Modzilla Thunderbird that automatically filters everything into mail boxes. All those emails I want to read go into a separate box automatically and get a highlight flag... once in a while I do a skim through the trash to see if something got missed No issues and I get hundreds of emails a day. And if you get a persistent spammer. a simple filter to move it to trash as it comes in and POOF

But yeah use a throw away email for anything suspicious... if you feel the urge to check it out
