I don't know if this has already been mentionned but there is already a thread about this subject on ATS Here

Not sure what to make of this. Perhaps the internet security specialist is having some fun with patents( and conspiracy theorists)? Or perhaps Marlin B. Pohlman has nothing to do with this? The patent date of application is 2004 - 7 years ago.

An obvious hypothesis is that Marlin Pohlman is the Titor hoaxer.

The information John gave was so accurate it had physicists scratching their heads.

It was indeed very entertaining. But I recognized it was a hoax when Titor showed a (blurry, of course) picture of a test of the time-machine in the passenger seat of the car which supposedly showed a laser-beam in smoke/fog being bent by the gravitation generated by the device. And sure enough there was what looked like a bent beam.

It looked just what an educated layman would think, "yes of course I've seen those pictures of the light beam bent by the Sun on NOVA and this is like that. Wow!".

The problem is that in fact the operation of such a device would bend all light passing through the area, as that's what it means to warp the metric. So all the background would need to be optically distorted in a bizarre and complex way, but it wasn't. (you can't get general relativity plugins in photoshop). It looked like a bent "laser beam" (which I suspect was a glowing fiber optic cable in fact) in flat space.

And in fact other actual physicists at the time did a rebuttal of some physics howlers and mistakes.

However the hoax was smart enough to fool lots of educated laymen----it's on the level of a decent science-fiction author.

One thing which intrigued me. Suppose you "time-reverse" the last name: Titor -> Rotit. Homonym for "wrote it?" Could be the author's hidden "easter egg"?

Actually, the information that Titor talked about was well known to physicists, they where not scratching their heads at the time. You could find that information from 1930's comic books etc. lol inspired by physicists. Titor never went in depth about the science of how his machine worked, just the basics that anyone could look up.

This guy also likes to write books, he is leading you to believe that he is Titor by laying "easter eggs." It's a tactic that another guy has already done, and who was a member on this site. Marlin is a bit clever than the other guy. I would also bet Marlin hired help "college students" as most writers do, to research the science in his patents. This would explain his clarity drug!

I personally don't think Marlin is Titor, I have read his stuff and it's just too way out there to be the same guy who posted as Titor, unless he has a severe case of multiple personality lol.

Not exactly, it's that the name "Titor" suggests an easter egg referring to a writer. I'm suggesting that the author of the Titor hoax is a writer but on its own the name says nothing.

Skilled writers can adopt many different styles.

The only connection to Marlin is the use of the same diagram for the "Time machine".

The easter eggs I'm talking about are the clues that Marlin drops in his works, he admits this.

As an artist, I work with several professional writers and editors, no matter how unique and unpredictable they can be doesn't necessarily hide their style. They all have their quirks. What I see in Marlin is that certain phrases and terminology Titor would use. I can't be 100% sure he is not Titor, however some of his other work just seems way off from Titor's writing. I think he does this on purpose, and you think Aha! Titor...

However it's been done before, just not on the same level...

All he did was use the name "Titor" as an example name in one of his Oracle books. He isn't a fictional writer anyway, all his books are technical works.

No he used more than the name Titor. What would you call someone who back engineered his work based on John Titor’s posts and hopes GE or some other large company takes it over? And claims to be a writer?

Do you think someone would seriously base their physics on a possible internet hoax? lol

It's possible he tried to enter the patent industry since he has a academic degree in physics. Maybe patenting Titor's machine was just a bit of practice for him, who knows. I know for a fact he can't back engineer a machine just on sample pictures and little information, he can only speculate a shell of a theory.

Anyhoo, do you see where this is leading... or pointing to?

lol makes me think of the butterfly dream...

I wonder what Zhuangzi would say about a hoax within a hoax ?
You say the hoax was good, but the hoax replies "How do you know it was a hoax?"
heh

Might have been posted, but how old is Martin, and how old would he have been when titor first came on the scene?

Martin doesnt look that old, but then again Im not an age expert.

Just something to look into. Im at work, so cant do the digging.

I would guess his age now is around 38 or in his early 40's. He started college in 88, so that would put him around that age now, unless he posted bogus info

This patent by Pohlman that was used as the basis for creation of this thread has absolutely NOTHING to do with "conventional" time travel and/or time machines and has no bearing whatsoever on travel into the past or future as espoused by "Titor".

If anyone else had actually taken the time and trouble to read the ENTIRE patent, as I did, it would be very obvious that Pohlman was in fact, actually patenting a hypothetical system of GRAVITY BASED PROPULSION utilizing a differential gravity gradient generated across 2 Kerr type singularities in close proximity to each other.
At NO point whatsoever within his patent does he mention time travel into the past and/or future in the manner described by the alleged "Titor".

In fact, I'd like to know why the thread creator believed that there was ANY KIND of link between Pohlman's patent and the alleged time-travelling Titor

I suggest to the mods that this thread be marked as a HOAX.

You mean other than the fact the drawing with the patent is the one provided by john titor and the myspace page that goes with the guy who submitted the patent list john titor in the interesting people/ heroes section!

This are two reason there.

Also in his myspace page he states he could not go near computers whilst on medical leave so looked into time travel theory as a way to allow him to use the fact his brain wouldnt shut off, then based the maths on titors system and thus decided to patent said system??

So if you had taken time to read the thread and the info posted by other people investigating this you would have known these are the reason the link has been made.

Guess that'll be why the mods didn't hoax this thread

I based my comments purely and simply on the title of this thread, namely:
U.S. Scientist Patents Time Machine. Possible Connection To John Titor?
and expecting to see a patent SPECIFICALLY describing time travel technology.
The OP has clearly and unambiguously stated that a Time Machine patent exists and based this thread upon that specific patent.

Therefore, kindly point me to ANY section of the patent in question that states or even implies that Pohlson has attempted to patent a "Time Machine" or time travelling technology. The OP however is clearly implying that the patent in question is related to time travel technology, irrespective of whether the diagrams appearing in the patent have been published elsewhere.

Let me ask you a question ... have YOU even bothered to read the patent yourself and determined it's relevance to time travel ?

Yes,

Clearly you have a greater understanding of this than me and I apologize if I have misunderstood, I was under the impression that a time machine is a method of propulsion just traveling through time and space instead of just space as say a rocket or combustion engine travels.

Also there's a theoretical time thinning effect that occurs when two singularaties are harrnessed in close proximity? So this would allow for the the method of te travel to occur.

Essentially a time machine propells you through space and time?? And thus would be a mode of propulsion, correct me if I have misunderstood though?

I meant to also say,

Again from what I understand a time machine isn't a thing.

Let me explain... A device used to take you to a certain point in history or future would be more of a space machine (depending on ones definition of time) as you would use the device to take you to a certain point in space time ie. The earth is in constant movement, however so is the rest of the galaxy and of course universe, so you would be wanting a device which takes to a place where the rest of the universe was in a different place not just what we perceive as earth time, in this case you would (from a scientific stand point) not use such a basic description as time machine.

Maybe singularity driven spacial relocation propulsion unit would be better, however alot less snappy

Gonzo, I'm hugely interested in this particular 'fact' for personal reasons. I couldn't find that on his MySpace page. Can you tell me where you saw that? Please?

Yea two of the posters on this thread picked out alot of his info and quoted it in this thread about one or two pages back, it's where he states he was on a cocktail of drugs and couldnt switch his brain off but due to contractual (or at least terms set by his work) he wasn't allowed to be doing computery stuff (I think it was due to the fact he was a computer programer and due to the company he worked for they would own his intellectual rights for new programs, standard fair in large multi national IT companies (working for one myself and my friends work for a competitor of sorts))

I will find the quote for you later of you can't yourself as I'm on the iPhone at present and not at my pc, searching then copying m pasting is a hassle sorry!
