Enough posters have shown their acuity to see through at least part of this thread. If there is anything The US should apologise for, it is dropping those Atomic weapons totally unnecessarily. Japan was already a knackered enemy, napalmed day and night with impunity, killing 100,000 in one go, no air force left, no fuel, and little food.

The Japanese knew it, the Americans knew it,

"Even before the Hiroshima attack, American air force General Curtis LeMay boasted that American bombers were "driving them [Japanese] back to the stone age." Henry H. ("Hap") Arnold, commanding General of the Army air forces, declared in his 1949 memoirs: "It always appeared to us, atomic bomb or no atomic bomb, the Japanese were already on the verge of collapse." This was confirmed by former Japanese prime minister Fumimaro Konoye, who said: "Fundamentally, the thing that brought about the determination to make peace was the prolonged bombing by the B-29s."

Source,

www.ihr.org...

It was overkill, and on mainly innocent civilians...they knew that too. Yet even today and here at ATS, some burger got a half dozen stars applauding the Atomic attack!

Here is what I think... I don't care that he bowed down out of respect to Japanese officials. It is not different than shaking hands with some one. it is respectful. So get over that.

Do I care if he apologizes for the US nuking and killing people? No not really....

I really don't care. So what if he does? If you are concerned that people will think he is weak for apologizing for the killing of innocent people, I suggest you are wrong. People just might view it as compassionate.

That said, I personally would not apologize. Yes, it killed a lot of people. But in the long run, it helped bring a much quicker end to the war and also saved a lot of lives in the long run.

I would not apologize, but quite frankly, I don't care if he does or not.

Here is the deal. Ultimately, this is a political NON ISSUE!

I don't much like the guys politics either, but it is just funny that no one ever really goes after his politics. They just attack his character.

and if you find it bad that he showed respect to Japanese officials, in the traditional way of the Japanese, or you find it wrong that he feels bad and may want to apologize for a bombing that killed how many innocent civilians. well, then I suggest maybe you are the bad person here.

Yep, it was a different time in warfare and innocent people got killed in greater numbers than they do today but hey, so what? If he wants to apologize, it shows character. It shows that he has a heart and that he finds it sad that it had to come to such an awful, horrific bombing.

Find a real issue to complain about.

What non-relevent parts did I post? hmmmm? I posted the only part of the cable that had ANYTHING to do with Hiroshima, visiting, or the word apology. I'm deflecting NOTHING. I took your speculation HEAD ON and refuted it. Trying to say I did otherwise is a blatant lie, and one you deserve to be called out on.

Don't let the facts muddy a good Obama trashing session...

I cannot believe that ATS allows such blatant BS as a thread topic..when it has been shown to be nothing but complete lies.

I asked the question to start my thread which was deleted....is Obama a socialist, capitalistic puppet or anti christ?

I wanted them to choose which one..or were they cherry picking to fill their hate agenda.

It was deleted because they said it was politic trolling, offensive or whatever.

Why is this not deleted...it is politic trolling at it's worst...it is offensive to those of us who stand for truth and hate when lies are spread...yet ATS does nothing.

Maybe it wasn't ATS...maybe it was a possibly biased Mod...pure speculation on my part.

It had nothing to do with shortening the war, you either don't know the history, or were never taught it right.

Just to add, I would agree though that Obama may feel the need to make such an apology, I don't know if he is the first president to feel that way, but if those bombings were unneeded, (and they were) I can see why.

You're talking about Bush and I didn't Like Him Either, But that is Not being discussed in this Thread.
It's Obamas Administration.
Bush Did Not Need To Apologize.

I hate this liberal agonizing over history:

It was a WAR; A justified; declared; "worldwide " (I might add) "WAR" (One we didn't start!)

Don't like wars?(er...uh "kinetic actions")? Tell "your" president to quit starting them!

( I don't claim him or the countrymen who put a man in the highest office on the undefined promise of "hope" and "change" ).
