That was really not much to the ship. Most of the boats that were destroyed in the harbors could have been saved by sailing them out to sea after the Earthquake, and the news reports mentioned a few captains who actually saved their ships this way, but unfortunately not many.

Tsunamis are relatively impotent at sea like this, it's not until they get closer to shore that they become harmful.

Yeah but there is NOT enough time to listen to a 30-45 minute warning, gather all your crew or most of them and then set sail to meet the waves head-on before the onslaught!

As for the rest of your post, yes big waves exist some up to 150 feet tall called rogue waves, but they are not dangerous to coastal areas. That "wall of water" is very narrow compared to tsunamis so its like comparing apples to oranges. We have to make the distinction. Its important!

[I agree that another camera angle would help. I find it interesting that no one else on the ship had a camera going at the time...it would also have been interesting if they would have turned the camera around and showed us what happened as the wave moved on.

Is this not the end of the video where the Captain says ' we heard the earthquake go boom boom boom, knew there would be a Tsunami, so headed out to meet it'.
