Meteor 2011 SE97 a 32 - 71m rock travelling at 14km/s is making a close pass today, but, could also impact with a 4 megaton blast.

2011 SE97 Impact Risk Summary

I personally don't think there's anything to be concerned about, but, panic if you will, or not. It's your choice;whatever makes you feel better.

That's what I read too.
Unless I'm in another incarnation at that time, I'm not worried.

The Torino scale has it listed as a 0 When it registers a 5 or greater, than I will look at it.
An 8 plus on the scale, hold onto to your shorts.

The likelihood of a collision is zero, or is so low as to be effectively zero. Also applies to small objects such as meteors and bodies that burn up in the atmosphere as well as infrequent meteorite falls that rarely cause damage.

The page that you link to quite clearly states that there is no risk of impact until 2095-09-29.37 (YYYY-MM-DD.DD)
Where in the world are getting the idea that it might impact today?!?!

I never knew NASA reported actual odds of meteor's hitting the earth. Kinda scary when the odd's are about as good as winning a local lottery. NASA's gotta win sometime!

This totally reminded me the film dumb and dumber, when he asks the woman 'so what's the chances of a girl like u ending up with a guy like me' . She responses 'like 1 in a million' then u get the funny 'so your telling me there's a chance' !!!! I hope u were refering to that haha!! Off topic yes, but there a wee bit of little heartness to dull all the dooms day talk

We know the following that ....

1 Kilometer = 1000 meters

solving for meters using cancellation of units (km) leaving meters(m) we have...

.039 Km x 1000m/1km = 39 m

1 meter = 3.2808 feet

Using cancellation of units once again we have ...

39m x 3.2808ft/1m= 127.95 feet

The crater in Winslow,Arizona, was caused by only a 130 ft object. that was travelling 4 times as fast as a rifle bullet.

The pass was measured in AU and not even LD, why start a thread like this?

They really need a negative credit button here.
