We don't need the government to even get involved in this. This is something that the American people could, and should, handle on our own. If we would stop buying products from China, the problem solves itself.

While many will argue that they can't afford to buy American-made products, I would argue that cheap is actually expensive in the long term.

If we buy American, we are supporting the incomes of Americans. If we buy from China, we save money up front, but pay for the difference later. How? Because the more crap we buy from China leads to more business closures here and in turn more unemployment and bankruptcy filings....that we all pay for anyway. Not to mention the contaminants found is a small percentage of Chinese products, such as excess lead and other carcinogens, that are not permitted in American made products, but cause illnesses and disease that we end of paying for in the way of increased healthcare costs.

Topics like this make me scream: why are you waiting for the Government to fix the problem? Fix the problem yourself!!

In my opinion the Government do need to act. Fast. We tend to be very short-sighted here and avoid looking at the big picture. We have been seduced by cheap prices in our stores that at first glance seem to stretch our dollars. In reality we have systematically dismantled our core manufacturing base and put small independent retailers out of business and now those prices are on the rise.

Having decimated the backbone of our industrial base we are now seeing greater effects on our economy and now we are finally paying attention to the fact we have more money going out than coming in. Their economy is growing fast as ours slows and begins to decline. In my book that looks like the makings of a power shift. Add to that the recent push from China to have their Yuan replace the US Dollar as the global reserve currency and we will be in for some major hurt.

Vote with your dollars and buy American.

Man a little too little too late or what?!

Also I wonder how many quadrillionaires were made to only have a few hundred billion in their surplus?

Ok off to read the rest of thread.

S@F for bringing this to my attention.

America is too dependent on China to start a trade war, imports from China have increased over 800% since the mid 90's. China would hurt from such a thing as well, but with a growing domestic market or Asian market in general, along with the European market which is of course massive in itself and one China is highly dependent on also(EU exports to China are larger than the USA)...the biggest loser would ultimately be America imo, of course in reality neither country wants to lose the other and may make concessions here and there to make sure of it.

WHO and WHAT is China, really?

It owed its rise to western civilisation, hard to swallow for the chinese, so be it. If not for the spread of western ideals and innovation, isolationationalist China would had been ruled by the monarchist Qing Dynasty.

No doubt the western powers and japan tried to rob China of its wealth, but it had been WESTERN ideals of founding fathers and intellectuals from the Enlightenment Age that put a stop to it. Freedom Fighter leader Sun Yet Sin during the late 18th Century studied from those classics, and not the depridations of colonial powers' philosophy.

Even the devil Mao had to learn from Karl Marx, then unaware of the pitfalls it would entail to the masses if such philosophy fell into the power lusting wrong hands that Mao was.

Finally Mao died, and Premier Deng took over. He saw capitalism as the answer, and tried to adapt it to improve his own hardcore commie diehards.

What they had done WAS TO COPY AND APE THE WEST IN TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION.

They had none of their own, given the commie and absolutely horrifying corruptive nature that the few imposed upon our fellow innocent human brothers and sisters of the Chinese nation.

They not only copy, they enticed greedy western corporations into China inorder to steal further their secrets to make themselves great, along with manipulated currencies to ensure their cheap, cutting corners, shoddy, toxic exports get top export dollars.

There is no profit in beggering thy neighbour. At least finally America is waking up to the China gov - CCP's duplicity.
