A massive explosion, which appears to have been a suicide bomber, kills "many" in the capital city of Kabul, Afghanistan. Among the dead are 3 American police trainers.

KABUL, Afghanistan A big explosion badly damaged a house in downtown Kabul (search) Sunday, killing at least one man. The building was in flames.
....
Reporters saw the body of one man lying in the street in front of the house before Afghan police and foreign security guards apparently Americans pushed them back and closed the street.

The dead man appeared to be in uniform, but it was not clear if he was a soldier or a security guard or if he was Afghan or foreign.

The mangled and charred wreckage of a car was also visible in front of the house. Afghans crowded round what appeared to be the engine block several hundred yards away, suggesting a car-bomb attack.

The blast took place in front of the Dynacorp building and near the U.S. Embassy.

Al Qaeda, Taliban claim responsibility for Kabul bombing

A statement purported to be from Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for a bombing in Afghanistan's capital Kabul that killed at least seven people.

Earlier, the Taliban militia said the bombing was its work.

Hours after the blast, a large part of central Kabul was still cordoned off by international peacekeeping troops and Afghan police.
