in the 50's and 60's ,America went through a change, mostly cultural and civil rights.
In the 70's ,we went through tough economic times.
In the 80's and 90's,we went through a boom, people prospered.
And ,now,we are going through some really bad times.

It's like the American people were given the American dream, then they just took it all away.

That is why people are upset.

Well said except the people weren't "given" anything, they had to work hard and fight for everything they have only to have it stolen from them by greed, jealousy, envy and corruption. Just saying.

Thank you for correcting that.
We,I,did work hard for it and did achieve it like so many others.
And what do we get in return?
Sorry,I've got some bad news for you.
We,the government and the Federal Reserve, messed up.
Our bad.

I posted on this in the recent past and after reading your thread I had to re post.. Thanks for your thread and stay in touch..

Look, when our leaders sent our jobs overseas, they knew what they were doing..

They knew they were trading the jobs of the "Average Jane and Joe" for cheap electronics etc and the corporate's "Bottom Line." Fast forward with me. In the late 1990's or there abouts, the "Capitol Gains Oppertunity" comes into play, allowing homeowners to make loads of money on sales of their homes, tax free.!! Move forward with me, In the early 2000's, Real Estate goes through the Roof !! and loans are given to almost anyone who ask's for one, knowing that there is a problem comming when it needs to be paid back! These "Loan Sharks" are not new to the game, they know whats a safe risk! So at this point, let me say,

If you want to destroy a nation and its people, what is the best way to do it? Remember this also, this nation has a military. The members of which have family. ( Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers and children.) You can't overcome the population with brute force cause they own too many firearms and are not going to be sold without a fight, once they realize they have been betrayed.

So!! What do they do? They send our men and women in uniform to war. Making up false accusations and complete lies and fabrications to invade and destroy a foreign country. As a footnote, "The Enemy" in uniform was defeated quickly and yet we have stayed for a decade. If you add to that the deaths and mutilations of our beloved young men and women, our children, it's not a stretch to start to wonder, if maybe it's purpose is to destroy our military who should be here at home defending us from the lies and deceivers that have and continue to invade our privacey.

So where are we now? 14 trillion dollars+ in debt. As they planned it, unemployment through the roof!! The media controlled and owned by those who spout promises and false data of our predicament. Homeowners victimized by "The Bankers" etc.Foreclosed on while they crooks that positioned them for loss get bailouts and carry on with business as usual. Not to mention our produce and vegitables are rarely grown in the states anymore. The space program has been ended but not until we built the Space Station with tax payer dollars and play roommates to the very country that is communist and opposed us for decades. Lastly.

Try to talk or have communication with your elected officials once they are in office. Try to find out what happened to the 2 trillion dollars that went missing at the Pentagon on 9/11 or the tens of billions that went to Iraq that dwindled away.
Remember one thing. If you dont provide a service of some kind, you dont have a job. The US is a consumer now and we flip hamburgers and live on crumbs unless your a lawyer, doctor, fireman, professional, etc.

There is a bright side though. Some of us have done well in all this mess. They are the ones that are supposed to be helping America and the American People. The Silent officials who we elected and the puppets they have retained to invade our privacey and police our lives while they re-write our forefathers dreams and promises with "New Money Making Laws" and pay for it with our childrens futures' and lives..

You missed something:
The dwindeling of our privacy and rights via the Patriot act, which would make anybody speaking out against the government labelled a "terrorist"
Other than that good post!

We have turned into a service economy from a producer of goods.

I have one on my side,I hope.
It's Rand Paul,Ron Paul's son.

I say if they can bailout corporations and banks to the tune of billions and trillions of dollars they can bailout American citizens, it is our money after all. Considering that they put the debt in our name and It's supposed to be paid back in full with profit no doubt however no measurable results have been felt in the economy.

Yes stocks went up Corporations and Bankers were happy that they got bailouts and now? People still losing jobs, homes etc,. Why not bailout American citizens with stimulus checks let's say $250000.00 Dollars each
what do you think they will do with that money? Pay off mortgages, cars, pay bills in general and invest or save whatever is left! Either way the Corporations and the banks get their money except the people also get something in return. No, this is just way too simple a solution why fix it the easy way when it doesn't have to be fixed at all.

Thank you for posting this link. I found this lecture absolutely chilling, and terrifyingly accurate.

Thank you to those who have commented, it has truly helped me re-focus. I do not agree with some of the posts, however, the OP's have expressed valid points.

Just a quick note about this thread and some personal disclosure:

.

I re-watched the events at OWS Boston with a much clearer head.

No, I did not see any cops bashing people over the head with billy-clubs. But I DID see American Military Veterans standing up for what they believe in.

I also saw my fellow Americans exercising their right to freedom of assembly, free speech, and their RIGHT as Americans/ human beings to engage in acts of civil disobedience.

Then I saw American police officers, (who are most likely veterans themselves), knock my fellow Americans to the ground, along with the flag of The United States of America. THAT was when I felt like the floor fell from beneath me. Seeing the symbol of what America used to be on the ground was just so so so SYMBOLIC of the current state of affairs.

We are all Americans.
We need to lift each other up, not tear each other down.

How amazing would it be if we could get the REAL American tea party members to join with the REAL American OWS protestors? Not the hate spewing folks on each side, (Democrat or Republican Legislators, and all other political/ fed gov folks), but you me, my neighbor etc.

How amazing would it be if in each city, fellow Americans who happen to be police officers, joined with others protesting against the sociopaths running the show. And that's all it is- a show, smoke and mirrors.

We need to focus on the fact that we are ALL Americans.

Citizens of the United States: Remember Who You Are!!!

Honor those that have died protecting our freedom by honoring the document that made our once great nation stand as a beacon of light.

Organize yourselves quickly, but peacefully.

This is not the time to shut your fellow countrymen out:

Its here. Its real.

And we must stand together as Americans, or instead of a revolution, we will have a civil war.

I have already taken steps, some may scoff, but we all must begin somewhere. I went and met with each of my neighbors last night. As a painfully shy person, (IN person- not online
, it was daunting, but really? I would give my life for my country, and THAT gave me courage. I invited them to attend the protests in our state, and found out that they are starting to wake up as well. We discovered that we are basically the same- we want our country back.

So here is my challenge to all of you :

I DARE you to walk next door, across the street and meet your fellow Americans. Talk to the person next to you in line. BE BRAVE, and listen-really listen to what your fellow Americans have to say. You might just find out that you are not alone. And you might just realize that they are all you- they are us.

Remember who you are!!!!!!

Peace

Because the 99% is going to attempt to bring us socialism.

Socialism is not less government and regulation it is more of it and they turn a blind eye to human rights and inalienable rights and freedom as well.

This has to be the most obsurd response i have witnessed on ATS in a very long time.

Lets break your jargon down shall we?

First off, this is not a complete sentence, but my arguement is not with the structure, rather have we not been living in a Socialist society since lets say the 1913'S?

Let me throw just a couple of ideas at you. 1) social security, 2) Welfare, 3) Unemployment-benefits.
So how in the hell can the 99% throw us as you state into socialism when we are already there

How can you mock people for taking a stance, then with this sentence structure have the same people taking a stance, now turning a blind eye to human rights, and inalienable rights.

I am truly amazed, no wonder the masses can never get to step two, as we have the un-educated always tugging on the boots straps of the individuals trying to take the mass to the next level. Thus, hard to climb the ladder when you have individuals holding on for dear life of the individuals that have the balls to do something about their surroundings!

Boston police beating our American soldiers????

The ones who risk or give up their lives for our country???

They are supposed to get a pass like a press pass over at the information desk. Otherwise the cops cant tell whos is who. The pass means they have been "vetted" so just dont show up in uniform and thinks that will be enough. This isnt 1969!

I believe what you are referring to is called Progressivism.

en.wikipedia.org...

Progressivism is a political attitude favoring or advocating changes or reform through governmental action. Progressivism is often viewed by some conservatives, constitutionalists, and libertarians to be in opposition to conservative or reactionary ideologies.
The Progressive Movement began in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in cities with settlement workers and reformers who were interested in helping those facing harsh conditions at home and at work. The reformers spoke out about the need for laws regulating tenement housing and child labor. They also called for better working conditions for women.
The term progressivism emerged in reference to a more general response to the vast changes brought by industrialization: an alternative to the traditional conservative response to social and economic issues and, despite being associated with left-wing politics, to the various more radical streams of communism or anarchism.
Political parties, such as the Progressive Party, organized at the start of the 20th century, and progressivism made great strides under American presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Lyndon Baines Johnson.[1] Moreover, in the United States and Canada, the term "progressive" has occasionally been used by groups not particularly left-wing. The Progressive Democrats in the Republic of Ireland took the name "progressivism" despite being considered centre-right or classical liberal. The European Progressive Democrats was a mainly heterogeneous political group in the European Union. For most of the period from 1942–2003, the largest conservative party in Canada was the Progressive Conservative Party.

Again, Socialism refers to a set of related socio-economic systems and ideologies that seek to bring about equality in society to maximize opportunities for full human self-actualization, whatever that might mean. The vast majority of present-day socialists believe this would be best done by transferring ownership of the means of production and distribution (e.g., factories and railroads) to the working class.

We the U.S. citizen are way past Progressivism

Uneducated or intentional dumbing down of the masses? To keep people ignorant of what is going on so to better control us? Higher Education (or the lack there of) due to income issues of many families? Almost all governments try to pass legislation (laws) that by extension control peoples daily lives. Legislation=Control in any form of government be it a Republic, Socialist, Communist, Fascist or a Monarchy. It is ultimately for the people to decide what form of government they want. History shows that to be the case in many nations around the world and we should not turn a blind eye to the fact that it can happen here too.
