The Siberian region of Kemerovo announced they acknowledge the existence of the Yeti. They claim to have "indisputable proof" that Yetis live in their mountains.

I just found this article on my local newssite
here (Google translation)
Here you have a source in English as well:

The local administration of the Kemerovo region in the south of Siberia said in a statement on its website that footprints and possibly even hair samples belonging to the yeti were found on the research trip to its remote mountains.

"During the expedition to the Azasskaya cave, conference participants gathered indisputable proof that the Shoria mountains are inhabited by the 'Snow Man'," the Kemerovo region administration said in a press release.

The expedition was organised after Kemerovo's governor invited researchers from the United States, Canada, and several other countries to share their research and stories of encounters with the creature at a conference.
"They found his footprints, his supposed bed, and various markers with which the yeti marks his territory," the statement said.

Quite an announcement if you ask me, I'm looking forward to find more info on the expedition and its findings. The footprints, hairsamples, bed, territory markings ... And that idea for a future 'Yeti research center' sounds interesting as well. I haven't seen any pictures, and I couldn't find the official site yet.

Hopefully it's not just about promoting tourism in Kemerovo, as slightly suggested in one of the articles.
We'll see how this evolves, I guess.
Enjoy.

I for one have no clue whether they exist or not, but the official statement I find rather surprising. Although the 'tourism promo stunt' suspicions still stand.

"Conference participants came to the conclusion that the artefacts found give 95% evidence of the habitation of the 'snow man' on Kemerovo region territory."

Traditionally Yetis are thought to roam the Himalayas, but the Kemerovo government are keen to push the area's credentials as place where people can hope to glimpse the mysterious creature.

And even more: just last year they discovered a new primate species in that region (Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam), the northern buffed-cheeked gibbon.
I've mentioned it here also: www.abovetopsecret.com...

Previously undocumented organisms are found rather often, although it seldom concerns bigger mammals.
