Something about the OWS and related rallies seems off

I don't know where I'm going with this, but I just wanted to see if anyone else thinks that something seems off with the entire OWS movement.

Recently I saw that related rallies were happening in the two nearest large metro areas near me, and my only reaction wasn't a conscious one, but a instinctual one: Stay away from me! It was such a strong reaction that I couldn't at first accept that it was real. The more I've read about it though, the stronger that feeling persists.

This flies in the face of what we should feel about protests against those who caused this current situation, so I have tried to stay quiet on the issue, but today I woke up and when it came on the news that fear came over me so much that I nearly couldn't move.

Is anyone else feeling this? Or should I just stop watching the news for the next few weeks?

You have good instincts if they are telling you to stay away from the protests. Bear in mind that Anonymous is one of the leading groups behind these protests, and that they have made threats to "erase" the NYSE. That, in itself, is an act of terrorism against the United States of America.

Participate in the protests and you associate yourself, no matter how indirectly it may be, with terrorists.

Consider the financial ruin that some corporations and small businesses may experience as a result of the protests. Though that ruination may be spread out amongst many companies, thereby making the damage look miniscule on the grand scale of things, it could very well be more of a financial loss than the one wrought upon America during the 9-11 attacks. And those losses will be felt and carried by the American people for decades to come.

Actually I hadn't known that Anonymous had played such a role in this. I've seen the threads on here, but my hand seems to keep the mouse away from it. Most of my information comes from a few reports seen on the local news and from a few titles on Drudge when I can force myself to read them. So sadly I haven't done much substantial research on them. Good to know I'm not being paranoid though. In this situation that is the last thing I need to go wrong: developing a paranoid tendency.

edit on 10/10/2011 by Sir Solomon because: Needed to clarify a few things. Not enough caffiene in my blood to be thinking hard this time of day -.-

During the events that led up to the overthrow of Mubarack in Egypt, Anonymous posted a video threatening the United States if we were to have given any support to Mubarack. Shortly afterwards, the United States withdrew its support for Mubarack and he was removed from office by the "revolutionaries" that were wreaking havoc in the streets. Not long afterwards, the Muslim Brotherhood entered the political arena in Egypt for the first time. It wasn't long after that when the violent attacks against Christians in Egypt began to escalate. Now, according to the news, Christians are being literally hunted down and killed in Cairo - 23 Christians murdered and over 200 seriously injured this past weekend alone.

This is just one example of Anonymous at work to apply threats and terror against the people of America. The video threatening to "erase" the NYSE is another such threat of terror.

You are not being paranoid in regards to your instinct to avoid association with these people.

Huh, if it is true that Anon has been corrupted in that way then it is a terrible shame. I remember watching the chat rooms back when they were doing all of their early wikileaks work for academic interest (I was inspired to write a paper on direct democracy for a class because of it). At the time all I could think was how amazing it was and that it was a seed of what was going to be a possible future. Then again, so many of the natural growths of human spirit of late have been co-opted in some way haven't they?

Thanks for setting ease my concerns over being paranoid about this. It is a very fine line and a lot of times it isn't easy to see. Hopefully things will blow over soon. I say that half-heartedly though, as I know how October is a popular month in the annals of history.

This protest is not even close to the Tea Party. The Tea party wants to go back to Constitutional roots for our government. These guys want to destroy it all. I see a big difference. It is easy to see. half of these protesters do not even know what they are protesting and why. That makes them more dangerous and easily manipulated to follow any ideology, right or for wrong.

Here's where I get a little queasy: the protests were originally, so I thought, about the banking CEOs taking billion dollar bonuses while also getting bailouts from taxpayers. I thought the purpose was to protest large bonuses when a business is failing and needs money from the average American via bailouts, increased fees. Not to mention shady lending practices, etc. Ok...I get that.

However, all of the signs I have seen, and perhaps I didn't see enough of them, were all crying for wealth distribution, healthcare for all, sharing the wealthiest of Americans money with everyone....in others words, socialism.

Is this protest to push a more socialist agenda.....or is it to protest taxpayer paid bonuses? Frankly, I am confused by the whole thing.

Then, they started saying "we are Egypt, Syria, etc"....are they serious? How can you compare ousting a thirty year dictator to wealthy Americans?

I fear the original protesters have been replaced with an agenda.

that sounds like a brainwashed pussified response. remember that report a few months back that said if you support homeschooling you could be considered a terrorist? practicing christians too..??

i don't give a # if this country thinks i'm associating with terrorism anymore because according to their WIDE criteria of terrorist, we're all either terrorists, or sympathizers.

oh and by the way, if people stop being lazy, and deal with their own money, drop credit, drop banks, shop locally for food and such, then that would be the financial ruin of many corporations right there..

get off big businesses ****...

True about the Tea Party. I remember being slightly involved with it in 2007 before the republicans started slinking in. Now I don't like it, as it is being used as a rocket for their same agendas in the long run.

The feeling with OWS though was sudden and final, with no room for negotiation. That was what made it stand out so much more in my being as something to pay attention to. Sometimes I get a passing feeling similar over this thing or another, but most of the time they are over small things that I am affected directly by and are probably best described as proper course changes to stay in the safest water. If those were ones or twos on the scale, this one rang in at a solid 10 and cracked the gauge. Now it is like the collision alarm has gone off and the word "Brace!" keeps going off over the loudspeaker. I would guess my subconscious is throwing a heck of a fit over this.

--------------(I checked a couple of the new posts so I don't want to double post
)----

I suppose if it were true that this was completely against big business that major figures in that group would be against that wouldn't they? I was sure that I saw somewhere that Soros was for it. (D'oh!)

Shopping locally wouldn't hurt the mega-corps because they are in multiple layers of the supply chain. So much of the "local" goods are trucked in. Where do you think that local bakery gets its flour? Or the auto parts store gets their tires? What about the library, are all of their books made locally (I know this one you don't spend money on directly, but you still pay through it most of the time through taxes and fines)?

Our economy, for better or worse, is set up in such a manner that the specialized excess from one area flows to an area of shortage in exchange for the excess of their specialization. This has allowed the human population to grow far beyond what is natural. This has necessitated the growth of multi-national entities to arrange these transactions. Think for a moment what happens if you manage to slay one of these behemoths? I'm not defending them, I hate the fact they have come into existence, but they are there, we cannot start kicking out the support pillars of our civilization without first realizing that the roof is going to crush some or all of us in the process. You say stop pandering to them, make them play fair, I agree, but the line must be drawn shy of their destruction, for if that happens an unknown number of people will starve or freeze or be diseased.

If you can live with that on your mind when your wishes become true then you are a bigger man than I am. For I can't stomach losing one life because of something so small as the hatred of what essentially is a name on a piece of paper with a bunch of signatures on it.
