Iran, certainly not a friend of the US, is calling the OWS movement the American Spring and suggests that they see it as just as serious as the protests that brought a regime change in Egypt.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- An Iranian military commander said Sunday that the protests spreading from New York's Wall Street to other U.S. cities are the beginning of an "American Spring," likening them to the uprisings that toppled Arab autocrats in the Middle East.

The Associated Press

Course, maybe it's just wishful thinking on their part.
As long as we're focused internally we're not likely to look too hard at them.

What iran is saying is the exact same deflection attempt used so often by so many here on ATS.

It's called a false moral equivalency.

And carries the same "value" ...

www.foxnews.com...
After having read this, there are many questions that are in my mind about this. On one hand, I do admire the people that are getting out there in a proactive way to try to bring about change. On the other hand, though, I am wondering what exactly that change is going to entail, and this article brings some more questions in my mind.

1. This makes me wonder if Iran is supporting OWS, and if so to what extent? I realize that wikipedia is probably not the best source from information, but it does seem to support the idea that OWS is indeed inspired by the Arab Spring en.wikipedia.org...
The Arab Spring - en.wikipedia.org...

An Iranian military leader says the protests spreading from New York's Wall Street to other U.S. cities are the beginning of an "American Spring," likening them to the uprisings that toppled Arab autocrats in the Middle East.

2. If this does topple Western capitalism, what is the alternative to capitalism? Socialism? Communism? Fascim? Sharia Law? a return to true capitalism, the way the founding fathers originally intended?
[

Gen. Masoud Jazayeri of Iran's Revolutionary Guard says the protests against corporate greed and the gap between rich and poor are a revolution in the making that will topple what he called the Western capitalist system.

3. The fact that the protesters were parading around a golden calf...for those that are not familiar with the story of the golden calf, here it is....www.newworldencyclopedia.org...

Protesters Sunday paraded with an effigy of the Golden Calf in New York's Zuccotti Square. "It's a false idol, just as much as the Wall Street bull has been a false idol for so many of us for so long," Ed Needham, a protester, told the New York Daily News.

Hopefully, in the future, there will be a more clearly defined plan for what the OWS wants, but, like I said, I do admire them for getting out and actually trying to do something instead of sitting at home and complaining. But I suppose the real question is, what is that "something" going to entail, and at what cost?

Are you saying in your last line that Iran is shining a positive light on OWS so to take the focus off them so they can conspire behind our backs?

If so, then I would have to say you are just as paranoid as the poltics that got us in this mess in the Middle East in the first place. We should be focused internally or have you missed the fact that our society is mostly uneducated, our economy is screwed, and our culture controlled? Sorry, but you don't see too many cancer patients running around dealing with everything else other then their cancer. There is REASON for that, reason people.

Its no longer an IF a revolution will start it has. Its now just a matter of where we end up after OWS. Do we ignore it and focus on the war in the Middle East or do we stand behind it and strengthen the movement and our futures. Time for change is now jump on the train or be left behind is just my opinion.

Exactly, they would respond to the same kind of protests with automatic weapon fire. How anyone can listen to Iranian hypocrisy with a straight face is beyond me.

Neo that has me very, very worried.
I can't explain it, but something just doesn't ring true to me with these protests. I am also wondering what is going on that we are not paying attention to while this has now hit the main stream media.
