How many of you would pay a prostitute? Or vote to make prostitution legal?

I would rather prostitution to be legal, than to see what is going on in the "underground". However, many people really don't understand, or care not to understand the true nature of prostitution, and why just "legal hookers are not the soul issue"

Looking at some of the facts about street prostitutes, I am appalled at the lack of compassion for these girls and lack of outrage at the sick SOB's that go out and pay to victimize them. Our best solution is to throw these women in jail?

In a Newsweek magazine , that is all starting to change . Men are being persecuted for hiring sex workers now than just the sex workers. And Damned right so .
In fact , according to Newsweek , "buying sex is so pervasive that the research team had a hard time finding men who don't do it . The use of pornography, lap dances , phone sex , and other services have made the research difficult . "
According to the article , most men still find sex with a prostitute consensual , while in today's market , most start out at the age of 12 and have been sexually abused most of their life. Over 100,000 children are trafficked up to 300,000 a year in the US.
Money talks , their wouldn't be a market if there weren't a sick supply of customers .
My question is , under what theories do you consider prostitution to justifiably legal ????????

I would vote for legality.
I would also vote to end prohibition.

Legislating religious morality is a bane to society.

I have no problem with it being legal because if people are giving consent then who is making it illegal helping?
I can tell you its not society, its helping the authority take control of the population by arresting them for doing things they cant help because its natural.
Prostituion has been going on forever and why do they thing that making a law is going to stop anything? its just a pointless waste of money and people should be free to do what they want!

What disturbs me is the amount of children , (my daughters age ) that start out in this industry . By making it illegal , we are perverting the system. If a mature women goes into the industry that's one thing , however statistically that doesn't seem to be the case these days. It makes me wanna vomit.

It should be legal since a woman's body is her property essentially.
Just as suicide should be legal.

However if we had a system that made sense and protected people's liberty, no one would need/want to be a prostitute or commit suicide anyways.

Sure, I am in principal against killing myself or lowering a woman to the level of a prostitute, but I would never desire for a system of tyranny to be established to use force or violence to prevent them from doing what is their right.

Living in an unjust system is the causation of many of these problems in the first place.

Of course this is terrible, but laws like this will never stop these problems. And there is actually research that shows passing laws like this actually increase the problems associated with victimless crimes.
All that laws do is make it ok for the law to arrest the little guy.
Very rarely do the big fish in the opperation get caught, so the problem will always be there.
I think legalizing it is the best chance children in the industry have because it gives a shot at shaping the industry.

they women should be rehabilitated, the men too..if your paying for sex there is a much deeper rooted issue involved that should be evaluated. Maybe a state paid vacation would facilitate the recovery process...

I personally know people who buy prostitutes, while i find it tempting myself...that's all it is -a temptation. A temptation just like so many other things. My logical side tells me temptations are wrong because they lead no where(illicit sex,drugs,gambling) so making it legal will do nothing to solve the problem. Then another side of me says w/e..let people do what they want.

I say give it a shot. Prostitution prohibition obviously does not work outside of Nevada. A woman has the right to do what she want to her body and a person has the right to give tribute to someone who does a service for them. Make it legal and regulated. Independent contractor

Ask most men who go through a expensive divorce or have a gold digger woman. Far cheaper to pay for some action when you want that have to do the "wine and dine" dating. If both consenting adults are in accord, then what is really the problem?
I have paid for companionship and have lady friends that have received tribute after spending time with a man. Nobody got hurt. To each his own and keep big brother and the law man out of the bedroom.

The thing causing prostitution is not some 'crazy' women or whatever, its a product of the society we live in.. Of course prostitution is natural and observable in nature but society makes it troublesome and dangerous by outlawing it.
I think the people who decide on laws that target the little guy and let the ringleaders get away need to be evaluated!

Prostitution, public nudity, recreational drug use, cigarettes, tobacco, gay marriage, and other forms of recreation, entertainment, hobbyism, or lifestyle should all be legal and fine.
It'd be a beautiful thing if we had 'free zones' similar to Amsterdam, or Hong Kong, or variations of such where typical taboos are relaxed. Such cities, municipalities, or areas, I suspect, would find themselves quite popular.

Read SuperFreakonomics. It put this issue in purely economic terms...both good and bad.

I did it once at my first duty station in Germany...but nothing happened, I didn't want to do "it" with a girl I don't know nor love, we just talked. Weird huh? Did learn some new Deutsch though.

But it was a rite of passage in my platoon. When we walked out, the girl yelled how good I was and we played the game.

I find it a sad state of affairs when a women can sell sex. Or has to sell sex.

EXACTLY! We legalized prostitution (ok, its just a few counties but whatev) and God didn't rain fire and brimstone upon us. It's highly regulated, condoms are mandatory, and the girls have to get weekly STD exams. Said counties make a pretty penny off the brothels and it all goes back to fund emergency services, road work, etc.

The same thing can applied to the weed/drugs argument. If they were to do the same with that, regulate and tax it, then we would be rolling in the money. But our government thinks it right to shove their values down everyone's throats.

Sex, for most men is a fundamental need. If it wasn't for prostitution many men would have to go without. Life without sex can cause debilitating phycological issues. I think it can be difficult for us who do not have a problem acquiring sex whenever we want to understand how difficult it can be to look forward to a life without.

Yeah, we should just "rehabilitate" everyone who doesn't believe the same things as you. It's not about legalizing it so everyone can go out and do it. It's about having the freedom to pay for some damn sex if that's what I want! Men are going to do so whether it's legal or not. There's no reason to punish someone for something like payed sex, all parties are getting what they want and it's totally consensual.

All of you have made very valid points , and in a way all you are talking about the "positives " of legal prostitution. So am I to assume that everyone agrees that the reason children are forced into this industry is because of the criminalization ?
There really is something troubling me . In all our "fingertips access" to sex . Abused little girls still make up the majority of the sex industry.

Well as I'm a girl I don't really care if it's legal or not

However, I would vote to legalize it as I really don't see a problem with it being legal. Plus it would also help to keep young girls from falling into the path of prostitution, I saw a special on CNN a while back it was really sad. I could not believe how many young girls were forced into it each year
