How do we know for sure that the events unfolded this way? The cops in California seem to like beating up homeless people. It wouldn't be the first time that they lied to protect themselves.

If the guy had been a football player, he could be well built. The cop could have decided to pick on the wrong homeless guy and lost the battle.

Lesson of the day -- if you steal a policeman's gun, make sure to shoot him with it? Food for thought.

Well, might as well I guess.....It's not like after this he'll ever be getting out of prison anyway. At least that way you'll have respect in the pen and maybe have a chance of getting away before more cops show up.

Disclaimer: I in no way condone this behavior...

I don't actually think the cops did wrong, but I gave you 2 stars for making me laugh! Nice, and with my coffee!

I don't know, I do know that if he were here near Chicago he would have been shot dead by the cop's buddies that would have been called immediately.

Better to run him over than have the offender shoot any innocent bystanders.

No.

Don't be a fleeing felon that brought a gun to a car fight.

Sounds like this 'cop' (or 'cops') is sorely lacking in his/their "duties"..

First, he lets the guy get his gun... FAIL
Then they try to shoot him, and miss. FAIL

I'm pretty sure when one is training to become a cop...
they teach you how to keep your gun from perps, and also how to aim the goddamn thing at perps.

This "cop" failed on both.

Yay for cops who don't know WTF they are doing.

Can't manage to keep your firearm..
can't manage to aim your firearm...

you should go work at micky D's, sorry bastid.

It seems that you are armchair quarterbacking this.
Ever been in a fight, where you not only had to defend yourself, strike offensively all with one had, because the other is securing your firearm?

why did he resist arrest? why did he "defend himself" in other words assault an officer. even if he literally did nothing wrong, he shouldnt have fought back.

by now he would have been released, without charges and could have potentially sued the state for unlawful arrest.

now he'll get a very long jail sentence instead.
