Is this kind of what you are referring to? I read this not that long ago. Very interesting article.

Well if it keeps coming back, then you obviously haven't found all of the corrupt/infected instances in the machine. These are supposed to be the best IT's the military has? I'm sorry, but I just found it funny. I pictured these guys standing around, using AVG or something, lol, rebooting their system and keeps coming back..??!!

I can has virus nao? I wonder if this virus was engineered for the purpose it is serving...??? That ramps things up a whole lot. Foreign government? China maybe? Their track record is pretty good when it comes to infiltrating US government systems.

Or is it just a good 'ole computer virus that someone accidentally brought in on a USB drive? Or was the drone browsing for pronz?

nice to see this news posted up here....well done OP...

it'll be hilarious if a foreign agency manages to take command of the drone and fire on friendly soldiers. it would be virtually undetectable.

My guess it is a semi-firm hyper supervisory virus in a glue or routing chip.

There is no great surprise here, the Antivirus Companies took all the tech to China for the cheap labour, the Chinese worked out every last way of breaking through undetected and have infected the US military latest toy. When will they learn? The pursuit of every last cent of profit by big business has compromised the security of every single last Western Democracy. The Chinese can now control the power grids, the equipment, and own most of the debt. We're screwed!

I'd like to see them blame this on Anon. Lol. IMO either somebody wants to copy the tech without going through the trouble of actually developing it or they are gathering data to use against the drones at a later stage. Cyber recon? Perhaps. What's weird though is that it hasnt sent out info yet. One would expect the US to know better and keep them off the grid completely. It would make sence if it was uploaded to the system by somebody on the inside. It would make more sense if that same insider did the data download, hence the lack of sending data. I may be wrong about all this, but I bet I'm pretty close. Anon probably wished they came up with this... Its China btw.

as long as chips on such a caliber are imported and not produced from internal secure locations, then this is going to be even more frequent in the years to come...

My God,I actually got hairs standing on my neck when I read this from your link:

China’s ambitions extend to crippling an enemy’s financial, military and communications capabilities early in a conflict, according to military documents and generals’ speeches that are being analysed by US intelligence officials. Describing what is in effect a new arms race, a Pentagon assessment states that China’s military regards offensive computer operations as “critical to seize the initiative” in the first stage of a war.

And remember-we have much more automated drones in the future.
If they can be hacked as well,we are in trouble.
Have you heard of "Taranis" the automatic target discriminating drone?

It is an unmanned warplane which is designed to fly between continents. It will carry a variety of weapons which will enable it to attack planes and also targets on the ground. It will utilise stealth technology making it difficult to detect and it can be controlled from anywhere in the world via satellite communication

But take heed:

With the inclusion of "full autonomy" the intention is thus for this platform to be able to "think for itself" for a large part of the mission.
And that's just one model that they tell you about.
That sounds close to skynet already..

Imagine the secret stuff.
Nuke equipped scramjet drones, low orbital strike platforms, and more than we can imagine I bet.
Welcome to the future.

really? a virus but still able to finish missions?
a situation where there is a vestige of a potential threat, but no actual threat.
something to show the number crunchers in senate appropriations committee, for more funding.

NorthStreet, you would hope they use their own secret chip foundry for all their systems, but Globalization tells us otherwise.
Maybe even drone manufacturers go for cheapo chinese chips sometimes.
That will bite them in the ass maybe.

Local manufacturing is the way, like in the old days!!
The world is upside down these days.

Actually being as I used to work for groups that did work on some of these things, and I now work for a company that sells IC production machines to Northrop Grumman and whatnot.... They do make their own chips for ANYTHING that is proprietary.... They buy really expensive machines too, not the cheap ones.... and they are the first to complain with it doesn't work to spec.... The chips are being infected from a localized source... most likely a disgruntled soldier, probably within IT itself.... They need to do a full flush, new systems, new IT guys and all.... The operators are probably ok, as they probably don't have access to anything other than the controls for flight....

i do feel that many within dod have the same thoughts regarding the flushing

Yes! That's what I was thinking about. Thank you!

The fact that the article was from 2007 should make us stand up and take this whole drone thing pretty seriously. Seeing as their cyber tactics were known to us almost five years ago, they should be damn close to perfecting their work and putting it into motion.

Thanks again, gunshooter!

Thing is,us little people know about such things as secure VPN.
The Drone runners MUST use something more hardcore than that, surely?
They must have their own super encryption codes and more high tech
Yet they still get hacked?
A spy in the building maybe?

IT/Software protection : It's like lockpicking, a smart guy locks the door, and there is even a smarter one out there to reopen it...
We had a hack for a explosive removal robot recently ?
No i think they have sold circuits of such a device on eby !
We have virus on the drone ?
No i think they have bought circuits on eby !

Virus Predator/Reaper

But: do the drones have some bluetooth or gsm ports ? I am sure they have some gps and edge either ?

i hope thy've used a boomerang code to hack it...

If i find one i will mount two seats up there and flying a bit around in the sunset with my beloved.

If hackers did get control of these drones, do you really think that they could perpetuate more insidious evil than the US military and all of its covert branches. And please, don't give me that USA is A-ok crapola. I love the land called America and all the people who live there, but you can take your facist corporate war machine and flush it down the toliet.
oh no... the evil al -CIA-da hacker has got control over the drone! LOL

Stuxnet from Israel. This is too. They're just keeping an eye on us. They'll act when they need to. (Opinion)
