With protest in the air and the economy looking gloomy as ever, is violence hovering in the wings? Is the letter a credible threat against politicians and the rich? The ramblings of a lone angry man? Representative of harder-edged, more militant rage simmering among the general populace? A "false flag" desgined to stir things up (this being ATS we must at least entertain the possibility...) Or something else?

People are too busy holding signs and sending letters. Many of these protestors would ask the government to act for them, for they lack the ability and skills to take care of themselves. Once we start moving into the winter season, the protestors will give up due to weather conditions. Its already getting colder. When we enter into the next year, many of these protestors will be too busy with finishing school. As we start to enter into the spring, some small faction of the group will appear. Unlike the group's current makeup, the new version will be absolutely controlled by the Democrat Party.

"OccupyWallStreet" has already been conquered.

Wow that is really not going to help anything. It's better to bring the wealthy to justice by finding lawyers who actually care (lol) about the protests and will go pro-bono (lol) (that's going to take the skills of a lawyer to convince one to do as such!)

You painted the wealthy with a broad brush.

Pretend this is the tax bracket:
(10% tax across the board).

$20,000 (per year) x 10% tax (.10) = $2,000 owed in taxes. - Lower Class

$30,000 (per year) x 10% tax (.10) = $3,000 owed in taxes.

$60,000 (per year) x 10% tax (.10) = $6,000 owed in taxes. - Middle Class

$100,000 (per year) x 10% (.10) = $10,000 owed in taxes.

$250,000 (per year) x 10% (.10) = $25,000 owed in taxes. Upper Class

$1.0 million (per year) x 10% (.10) = $100,000 owed in taxes. - Top 2% - Wealthy Class

Who is paying more taxes?

While "OccupyWallStreet"' and the president are saying one thing, the reality behind class warfare is something entirely different. Top 2% pay more taxes than all the other classes combined.

Using the actual and current tax scale: My uncle made $1.0 million dollars last year, and he had to pay $400,000 of it toward taxes.

How much are you paying in taxes?

How dare you muddy the waters with reality, shame on you.
And I fully agree with you, but your never going to get the obama kool-aid drinkers to understand that.

I know. Its sad.

My uncle sold a billion dollar company, and he got $1,0 million as a bonus. After he sat down to due the taxes, he found out he owned $400,000 of it to the government. Technically, he ended up paying more than what everyone in his location pays per year combined.

For those who can't do the math: $400,000 = 40% of $1.0 Million.

Woof. It sucks.

The French Revolution all over again? Does "Dancing With the Stars" = "Let them eat cake."?

I certainly hope not.

The French did prove one thing though. You can take a big bite out of the elite and still survive.

It is not time to kill the wealthy but it is definitely time to send them to rehab. They need some classes in social responsibility.

Globalization is happening so that the rich can get richer. To maintain profit margins they have to exploit workers overseas. Workers in industrialized nations won't put up with it.

I think what is needed is an analysis of transnational corporations to determine where their income is earned, where they sell their products. When that is determined, a figure must be arrived at which says that a similar percentage of their "mass", that is, their work force and plant, must be located in that country.

In a sense, it would be determining the center of gravity of the company. If the company's center of gravity in terms of it's mass, its plant and workforce, is Indonesia, for example, then the US government should revoke its articles of incorporation in the United States, unless the company adjusts its center of gravity by increasing employment and plant stateside.

Americans are under no obligation to upgrade the standard of living of Indonesians at the expense of American jobs and the elimination of the American middle class.

Social responsibility.

Transnational corporations, incorporated in the United States should not be relying on the American armed forces to buttress them in their dealings with dodgy foreign military dictatorships. American armed forces should not be helping the oligarchy to put their parents out of their jobs and homes and onto the street.

Social responsibility.

No oligarchy is going to dismantle American society.

It's not right.
But lets say we get these protesters wish and everybody is forced onto a level playing field. Where is the incentive/the drive to better yourself? Why would I want to work my tail off, invent something that would make me rich if my only reward is to have the government step in and say "No, your making too much money, we're taking what we feel is fair to everyone else."
Oh, I see where the argument'll go. There just after the evil "corporations", the evil "banks". But mark my words, after the destroy the banks and coporations, they'll be going after anyone they deam "rich".
The big question is, why aren't they protesting the ones that enabled the banks and coporations? Washington. Why aren't they protesting obama for bailing out wallstreet? The banks? They had no problem protesting President Bush, but apparently obamas hands off.

Its nuts. I agree. I absolutely agree.

How about competition? United States thrives as a competitive nation. Once they remove the reward system, no one will be motivated to do anything. Its a conundrum for this generation.

Regulating knowledge.

Obama has a blind media following, which uses their influence to control information. Republicans also have their media following, but the majority of the news networks lean towards the Democrats. When you have a massive tool that supports you blindly, you can manipulate ignorant people into doing things.

"Knowledge is power" and "OccupyWallStreet" doesn't have the knowledge. If you look at the demographics behind "OccupyWallStreet", you will find that they are college students, high school students, government unions, and lower-class. Once people have their first child or obtain their first pay check, they will realize the flaw in socialism, communism, and the Democrat philosophy. We all get screwed.

Some never-ever learn.

America is being ruined by sociopaths at the top.

They need to be brought under control. Americans need to take back their government and make sure they don't elect any more sock puppets like Bush and Obama.

America is being ruined by sociopaths across the board.

Democrats commit corporate, social, and political scandals.
- Bought by the following industries: electric, healthcare, medicare, left-leaning educators, and government unions.

Republicans commit corporate, social, and political conspiracies.
- Bought by the following industries: oil, defense, corporate unions, right-leaning educators, and industrial sector.

Both parties are bought by lobbyists.

They have brought this upon themselves. Did anyone really think that this current environment wouldn't end up being conducive to violence???

You have an armed populace that is about to be pushed off of the cliff. That's not a good mixture if you expect to maintain any semblance of a civilized society.

Weath + influence = questionable.
Wealth + corruption = bad.
Wealth + corruption + influence = worst-case scenario.
Wealth alone often comes of investing long hours of hard work and great expense to be a business owner rather than an employee. How is this last group bad in any sense of the word? And are people who hate "the wealthy" even going to care or differentiate between any of these groups?

The deliberate incitement of class warfare by rich politicians (most outrageously by Elizabeth Warren, who - I am shocked to discover - is positively REVERED by my working-class neighbors) is merely for the purpose of getting votes, and ironically, becoming more influential and wealthy. Is the unforeseen result going to be outright murder of people with more money that is considered acceptable by people with less?

Just FTR, I saw a radical rightwing 'lady' advocating re-education camps for all liberals, - and others were "Liking" it.

I am seeing more and more heated rhetoric against liberals -people saying ALL liberals are "COMMIES" I'm seeing a lot of the "We are fighting against evil!" as if the LEFT are all evil?

Why are the right wing so hard on their stance that it makes me not want to be associated with them?
I'm a fiscal conservative that likes small government? But I can't go there.

Re-education camps because you don't agree with someone? Really?

We are saying the same thing. The people who are pulling the strings, who are the employers of the lobbyists, are at the top of the society.

There are remedies for America's problems but the remedies are not likely to please the American oligarchs. What they don't want is a reversal of the flow of capital, to send it away from them and into the real economy, which renews the American infrastructure, creates jobs at home and stabilizes American society.

They want America to be like Mexico, a playground for the wealthy, and a labor camp for everyone else.

Agreed.

However, I don't think it will get that far. "OccupyWallStreet" still represents the minority of the population; thus, the majority understands that hard work and self-reliance is key to success. "OccupyWallStreet" is equal to the hippie movement of the 1960s, and most of them eventually became capitalists.

First, they protested against capitalism, and then they became capitalists themselves.

Lol...

The idea of "competition" in Western society is pathologically manipulated. Many viable cultures successfully promote and support the idea of "competing" with oneself, not others. Healthy, imho. Competing with others is a no-win game - there's always someone richer, smarter, bigger, faster, with more stuff. Breeds discontent, destroys joy.

Also imho, the most wonderful life occurs when one can enjoy one's work - pursue one's interests, excel in that context - and still feed, clothe and shelter oneself and one's family.

It's sad when the only legitimate/recognized "rewards" are material - life really has so much more to offer.
