After realizing that he might have a chance to win the presidency he was killed in the state capital in Louisiana. Even if you don't agree with his policies of socialism, you have to admit that he was a great speaker.

Long was a staunch opponent of the Federal Reserve Bank. Together with a group of Congressmen and Senators, Long believed the Federal Reserve's policies to be the true cause of the Great Depression. Long made speeches denouncing the large banking houses of Morgan and Rockefeller centered in New York which owned stock in the Federal Reserve System. He believed that they controlled the monetary system to their own benefit, instead of the general public's benefit.[2]

Long was killed by Carl Weiss.

my opinion is that anyone opposing the views of the "FED's" will just be "delt" with, thats how they have been working in the past, "supposedly" but the problem is if someone goes public enough, that indiviual is no longer capable of "just dissappearing" so idk about the whole ron paul getting assassinated, because if he did, that would be too easily traced back to the effected party for his election into office,

side note: im voting for Mr. Ron paul myself.

That was an interesting speech to watch. Ol' Huey could really get into some Oration after he'd had a few nips.

Yeah, the Huey Long experience is interesting. Not sure the elite had him whacked, but interesting nonetheless.

The Federal “Shadow” Government have killed and will kill again, any one, no matter their prominence.

JFK, Ron Brown, Vince Foster, Mel Carnahan, John-John Kennedy just to name a few.

Just because the person is in the spotlight does not mean he is not a target.

Huey Long wasnt a "socialist" he was a crook and an autocrat..

Sure, he gave away free books to children and put people to “work” with public work projects but he also consolidated his own political power through the reorganization of government most commonly associated with dictatorships. His political machine managed to replace nearly every unelected county commissioner, judge, police chief, and dog catcher with loyalists. His select group of state police were used to intimade political rivals and he used his control of the electoral commission to disqualify anyone they could identify as opposition.

One particularly notable example stems from a feud between former Long political ally and NOLA mayor Thomas Walmsley. Long went the legislature, stripped New Orleans of its power to collect local taxes and put the city on an allowance from the state which decreased each year as a way of strangling Walmsley out of office.

When faced with a choice between getting token freebies and living under an autocrat vs. working for what I have and living in a free society, I would choose the latter.

Wow. This is the first time I heard of Huey Long. If he knew the problem was back then no wonder he's no longer alive. Jesus is there not one good man in that era that wasn't whacked?

Fun fact: Sinclair Lewis’ fictional book on the dangers of a politician rising to power on a populist platform ”It cant happen here” was inspired by none other than Huey Long.

No problem. Great speeches from politicos telling what you want to hear is all fine and dandy, but a more accurate gauge of their intent is in their actions.

Politics in Louisiana have always been, shall we say, interesting.

Last time I was in the Capital building, the bullet holes from the shooting were still there, though that was years ago.

Shady deals and kick-backs aside, he was a gutsy fella who wasn't afraid to ruffle big feathers. Probably would have made a decent president.
