It is still so deeply ingrained in most Americans minds that they don't even think twice about it though...while in most civilized nations it is seen as backwards by society and unnecessary by the medical community. The percentage is dropping quite slowly but still nowhere near what most western nations are at as they push to eradicate the practice as much as possible... i think Canada used to have a high circumcision rate near that of the USA but has thankfully dropped quite considerably over the decades.

I remember a Sex and the City episode all about circumcision.
The bottom line was that anyone who was still natural (uncut) and a sexually active male was somehow a freak.
There seems to be an opinion in the US that a cut dick is sexy, cool and shows your manliness (the higher and tighter the better), and a natural dick is somehow "ewwwww". I think the medical garbage is used as intellectual justification (I mean how come so many people know the term Ballinitis?!).

Basically, it's a fashion thing. The mutilation/physical violence rationalisation doesn't find any resonance in the minds of fashion conscious moms. America will probably grow out of it one day.

i dunno about the spammers but yes there is alot of them. i respect your choice in your will but ive come across so many that have condemned me for my families choice. i have never hurt my children so to hear its child abuse...he doesn't remember it and his junk looks just like dads.

Yeah ok, you just want to keep the family tradition going and you never REALLY questioned the action. That's totally understandable.

No doubt your children will pass on the heritage, unless they decide to educate themselves, release their conditioned impulse to unquestioningly follow the ways of the tribe, and make their own choices based on what actually feels right.

I know the pro-circ people will disagree with this, but I cannot see how arbitrarily removing a fully functioning and healthy piece of the body at birth can feel right to any conscious being.

I appreciate your distress at being accused of hurting your kids when you believe it is the last thing on Earth you would do. Unfortunately, having someone slice of your foreskin DOES actually hurt. As a rational thinking grown up, I can bear that pain and discomfort if I 'voted' for the op for my own reasons. As a week old infant, I have no idea what that experience must be like. Most likely, I'd bury the trauma so deep in my pshyche I'd be posting on forums 20 odd years later saying it was no bid deal and I like my nice shiny dick and am so grateful my parents had me cut.

I don't care if people think it's good or bad.

I think X-rays are bad, but can I stop you from having your kid take them ?

Exactly.

Again circumcision does not reduce pleasure. The foreskin is there to protect the penis and rolls back when harden and has nothing to do with intercourse.

Spoken like a cut male. Dude, you have no idea

Last time I checked, more than my glans is involved in sex.
I don't remove my foreskin, like I might remove my shirt, when I have sex.
It's still there, still involved, still highly sensitive and sending my brain all kinds of interesting impulses.
Sorry you're missing all that, but please don't try to tell us about something you couldn't possibly have experienced or, it seems, understand.

I would prefer if it subjects like this didn't always have to devolve into "Mine is superior to yours" school yard bashing contests.

He wouldn't know what you know because he's not you.
Well you wouldn't know what he knows because you aren't him either. Ever think of that?

Ok, enough of this.

Sorry that's how you perceived the response, it wasn't meant that way.

The poster said the foreskin isn't involved in sex. OK, if you don't have one, then maybe not, but that's not what he meant. He is wrong. For uncut males, the foreskin plays a role in sex. Each man can argue to what extent he feels that involvment, but it is there none-the-less.

Your posts are normally more considered than that, you seem grouchy about this subject, are you having a bad day?

The whole hygiene issue makes me laugh. Use a shower you skanks! Mother Nature gave men foreskins for a reason. For protection of the glans and to assist sexual pleasure. But of course mankind knows better than Mother Nature, right? It also makes me shake muy head when guys say "My junk looks better". Really? Because visible scars are so attractive, right? Listen, the fact is that most American kids have this awful procedure done because Daddy wants junior to look just like him. Daddy wants junior to look just like his friends in the school shower. It's nothing to do with hygiene or aesthetics or disease-prevention. It's to make pappy proud.

How many single Moms do you think get their babies cut without pressure from Dad? I can't remember the stats but it's a lot less.

My last point is this whole "Circumcized men are less-likely to catch AIDS" thing. Think. Do you honestly believe that BS? Really? It literally makes no sense. But TPTB tell us, so it must be true, right? How much money do you think the medical world makes out of these routine ops? They'd tell you anything to keep you scared.

For God's sake, open your eyes America. Stop lying to yourselves about hygiene or whatever. You know in your hearts that you're wounding your babies out of tradition and nothing else.

We are born with our parts.

Surely there is a reason for that.

I think that human intervention in removing any part of a human is wrong, unless medically necessary.

New born babies do not have the capacity to make decisions for themselves. That is no reason not to circumcise. Would you not do piercings either?
Umm...actually, no. I wouldn't pierce my newborn because piercings hurt.

Of course you are, because you've never known what it's like to have a foreskin.

And THERE is the answer. In my earlier post I put forward the suggestion that most American babies are mutilated in this way to make Pappy proud. And you've just confirmed it. How very, very sad that a baby must suffer for its father's pride.

Absolutey shameful.

kind of amusing that a "perfect God" would make a mistake which requires surgery.

In any case this issue is an excellent example of the divide & conquer method in practice.

Our culture has already made us all uncomfortable enough with our bodies. This issue only serves for us to defend our own circumstances to the point of fighting amongst ourselves.

The truth is, if I were uncirc'd I'd probably argue against it, and if I were circ'd i'd argue for it. I think that might be the case for much of the discussion here.

The original topic was medical insurance: certainly in an emergency I don't think the co. should deny coverage. But then should we all bear the insurance costs (which is essentially *risk* protection), so parent's can give their child cosmetic surgery?

well braces aren't in the same league as being circumcised, I'm sure both our pro and con members of the subject will agree.

You think, no memory, because theres no technology to prove it yet. But i wouldn't be so against it if general anesthesia was used and i mean every time, be made law statewide that general anesthesia must be used, but that would be for the American health system make it a very very expensive decision, if it were the case then 99% of Americans would be uncircumcised.

To other commenters i compare your references:-
penial cancer - no prove whatso ever did you hear that from your doctor?

HPV/STD's - sleeping around without protection nothing to do with being circumcised - can i also add that africa has an AIDS issue due to using dirty knives for circumcising and other ritual modifications.

stinky willy - same as circumcised if you dont wash it it will stink, same for women,

i compare american view on this to that of the tribal beliefs from the horn of africa where they say the clitoris will grow and grow until it engulfs your body as the devil consumes you, but these africans that believe this cannot understand why women from outside africa can have a clitoris without being consumed by the devil. The same goes for the brainwashing you get from american doctors who will use any means to sell you this, after all they make more money from doing so, but tribal beliefs wont wash in modern america, so they use inferior statisical studys to try and persuade you instead if the "trend" bit doesnt work by say your son will fit in better when at the school shower rooms during sports.
