I didn't find a pre-existent thread on this; if I missed it, please remove this post.

I am no fan of Wikipedia, but this is ridiculous.

it.wikipedia.org...:Comunicato_4_ottobre_2011

(There are communiques in other languages beside Italian.)

Wow, Pretty heavy handed laws from Italian Parliament.

Forced modification of anything going against the grain.

It's just around the corner people. I can feel it.

its being changed to fit the "proper" views of the government; anything refuting this is removed.

This legislative reform proposal, which the Italian Parliament is debating these days, provides, among other things, also to require all websites to publish, within 48 hours of the request without comment, a correction of any content that the applicant deems detrimental to its image.
Unfortunately, the evaluation of "cause injury" of such content must not be released to a third Judge and impartially, but only the opinion of the person allegedly injured

So if you dont like something on a web site, anything at all, you can order it to be "corrected".
No court order required.
No excuse needed.

Yeah not going to visit Italy any time soon, their politicians are a joke and this is another example of the oppressive state they are becoming. Judging by their actions during and after the Knox trial, looks like the majority of Italians deserve it anyway

You only visit countries where no politicians are a joke and where there is no sign of oppression?

Wow. I'd love to see your travel itinerary.

Dear reader, dear reader, at this time in Italian Wikipedia danger of being unable to continue providing that service over the years and that was useful to you now, as usual, you were looking for. The page you wanted to read and there is only hidden, but there is a risk that you will soon be forced to really delete it. The Bill - Rules on Wiretapping etc.. , p. 24, letter a) of paragraph 29 reads: "For computer sites, including newspapers and magazines distributed electronically, statements or corrections are published, within forty-eight hours of a request with the same demographic characteristics, the same methodology for site access and visibility of the same news to which they relate. " Over the past 10 years, Wikipedia has become part of the habits of millions of Internet users in search of a knowledge-neutral, free, and above all free. A new, immense and free multilingual encyclopedia. Today, unfortunately, the pillars of this project - neutrality, freedom, and verification of its contents - are likely to be severely compromised by paragraph 29 of the so-called DDL interceptions . This legislative reform proposal, which the Italian Parliament is discussing these days, provides, among other things, the obligation for all websites to publish, within 48 hours of the request without comment, a correction of any content that the applicant deems detrimental to its image. Unfortunately, the evaluation of the "cause injury" of such content must not be released to a third and impartial judge, but only the opinion of the person who is presumed corrupt. So, according to paragraph 29, whoever feels offended by content on a blog, an online newspaper and, quite possibly, even here on Wikipedia, can lay claim to the right - regardless of the veracity of the information deemed offensive - to request the introduction of a "correction", aimed to contradict and disprove these contents, even in spite of these sources. In recent years, users of Wikipedia (remember once again that Wikipedia does not have an editorial staff ) were always available to discuss and to correct if, when checked against third party sources, any content deemed detrimental to the reputation of any person; all this without ever were less than the prerogatives of neutrality and independence of the Project. In very rare cases where it was not possible to find a solution, the entire page has been removed. Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 27 "Everyone has the right to participate freely in cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits. Everyone has the right to protection of moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author. " The obligation to publish our content in the denials provided by paragraph 29 , even without being able to debate the same and regardless of any inspection, for Wikipedia is an unacceptable restriction of their freedom and independence: this limitation distorts the underlying principles of ' Free Encyclopedia and how paralyzing horizontal access and contribution, effectively putting an end to his existence as we have known up to now. Let me be clear: none of us wants to question posed safeguards to protect the reputation, honor and image of each. Please note, however, that every Italian citizen is already protected in this regard by Article 595 of the Penal Code, which punishes the crime of defamation. With this release, we want to warn readers against risks arising from the decision of individuals to leave the protection of its image and its decoration invading the sphere of legitimate interests of others. Under these conditions, users of the Network would be induced to stop dealing with certain topics or people, just to "have no problems." We want to continue to maintain a free encyclopedia open to all. The Our voice is also your entry: Wikipedia is already neutral, it neutralize?
