This thread is to hopefully explain who the 99% are.

They are me, you, your parents, your grandparents, your siblings, your cousins, your friends, your co workers, your fellow Earthlings! We hail from all socioeconomical backgrounds, all faiths, all skin colours, all facets of society.

To those that see the #OccupyEverything campaigns currently ongoing as something evil please take a couple of minutes to read some of the stories contained therein :
wearethe99percent.tumblr.com...

If none of these stories tugs at your heart, brings a tear to your eye then you are heartless!

We are everyone, we are everywhere! WE ALL ARE THE 99%!

If your story is posted please post here!

Damn that sucks..

What makes it worse is the FACT that the 1% usually get free healthcare and the best treatment..
Especially the scumbag politicians..

At least here in OZ all that treatment is free, even if the poor don't get the best treatment they still get something..

That's a really awful story, but without the technological developments of our current economic and healthcare system she'd probably be dead.

Paycheck to paycheck? If my girlfriend had just survived cancer, I doubt I would care about living paycheck to paycheck.

It's all about priorities in life. Life ought to be pretty high on the list, I would think, and the money isn't going to come out of thin air.

Stop attacking and finding things to nitpick at please. The computers were long paid off probaly. I don't care if they had a wall unit full of nothing but high dollar collectibles, they were able to afford them and their lifestyle before their job got lost!

I seem to see a rather expensive looking computer setup with dual monitors in the background there. Paycheck to paycheck? Sounds like she survived. If my girlfriend had just survived cancer, I doubt I would care about living paycheck to paycheck. Plus if she hadn't paid for her own care she might not be alive at all...

how do you even know it´s his house?
how do you even know these are his monitors?

there's a little something on this site called 'deny ignorance'
give it a try

My bad bro I actually edited that while you were replying because I thought it was a bit harsh.

But seriously, if I were that guy I'd be focusing on the fact that my girlfriend just survived a terrible disease-- one that in any other time period she'd probably have died of. Not even the richest of the rich could have pulled that off 50 years ago.

Yeah. That was a shocking sign , his story . i mean it really super suxs . They are slaves there . They cant get proper medical treatment . If that is capitilism , then capitalism suxs .

Australia does have a good system . We have been smart by not being afraid of some socialism in all of us looking after each other .
And we have had good wages due to the Trade unions . It really does not sux as a tradie to be getting 60 dollars an hr .

Every poor person here can go to the doctors and get free treatment even if you do have to tell the doctor whats wrong and what to prescribe .

I dont understand Americans why they cant look after each other with such a huge working base .

You, and the rest of the industrialized world, have taken advantage of the achievements in medicine that were made possible by the extraordinary incentive (read profit) generated by the healthcare system in the United States. We even subsidize certain drugs for OTHER NATIONS but not our own.

Why?

Because someone has to pay for them. And no other nation is able/willing to.

That poor guy may have to pay an extraordinary sum of money to take care of his girlfriend, but she's alive-- he should take comfort in the fact that any amount of money can keep her alive.

I don't think your "common sense" rationale for the fact that she was forced to work 3 jobs while fighting to survive her battle with cancer - while members of the 1% demanded that she pay them for the drugs and treatment that she needed - is going to have the impact that you hoped it might. Like all you defenders of the idiot rich, you've got no visceral understanding of what kind of bizarre system you've decided to embrace here. And it definitely causes you to come across as a weird human-like hybrid that isn't anything that the rest of us can fully connect with at an instinctive human level.

If I were you - any of you - I'd try to get a better handle on how to understand what it is that you're missing about this issue. The psychopath is a person with no visceral commonality with other people. The connection simply doesn't exist. This can occur due to brain damage, a malformation of that section of the brain due to a birth defect or even due to mishap during puberty's restructuring of the brain, but it can also be due to a personality disorder brought on by cultural pressures if the person has been subjected to life within an insular community where psychopathic behavior is routinely rewarded. From what we're seeing in this clash between cultures (Main St. versus Wall St.) it's becoming very clear that the financial world is one of those insular communities where psychopathic behavior has been dominant to the degree and extent that even the defenders of it have no capacity to realize just how odious their rationalizations and common sense presents them as being to the rest of us.

I find it fascinating that two tribes of human beings can live in such close proximity while being so completely alien to each other in such a profound sense of what it means to be human. To be honest, it's kind of creepy to know just how disconnected you people really are from...well....from anyone around you.

Your assuming that all such developments come from the United States with it's out of control medical costs. Academic medical researchers who actually try to find cures and new treatments are located in most 1st world countries. Even those countries with universal health care and better wage equality.

Wow.
Way to miss the forest for a tree.
Xavi1000's picture is just one, just one of the many, many other stories and reasons on the site linked in the original post.
Why get hung up arguing pointlessly about just one?

And to the OP, thanks, didn't even think of making a separate post for the link.

Your welcome, this is posted to remind every single person here who is currently attacking and demonizing the movement here who the 99% are!

They still think that they aren't the 99%!

This is a classic tactic that pay-per-post marketing 1099s use to derail a thread. We encountered these guys when I was still in the 9/11 wars, and the formula becomes really definite and obvious after a while. There are a handful of really busy marketing firms that handle this form of messaging management, and they sprang up shortly after the 9/11 conspiracy threads started showing up on boards like this one.

I know this because I was approached in 2006 to work for one of them. I'd been having some fun with a few alternate personas on a national board with a lot of traffic, fighting both sides of the debate. My pro-OCT persona was pretty good at getting the truthers to flip out and get banned, and eventually I got a PM (private message) from a marketing firm rep, and we emailed a little about a contract to work a half-dozen boards (including this one) to create confusion over the new bits of breakthrough information that were beginning to come out (thermate and the migration of Engineers and Scientists to the truther movement).

It was pretty fascinating to be dialoging with someone who was so callous about the possibility that these were the goods on the Official Conspiracy Theory, and that we needed to prevent anyone from taking them seriously, or even bothering to spend the time to find out about them. Diverting the thread topics was the primary effort, since by then, there wasn't much to offer in defense of the OCT that hadn't been roundly discredited by anyone who was serious about the issue.

At any rate, you'll be seeing a lot of "common sense" posts, "why do you hate America?" posts, and lots of thread diverting and even hijacking efforts associated with this Occupy Wall Street topic. It's how marketing is done in this 21st century, and everything is marketed now.
