The entire North Central area of Edinburgh Scotland has JUST gone dark.
My son had football (Soccer..lol) training, and the entire area went off, on the drive back, it seems miles of area are in darkness. Anyone from the area seeing/notice this?

Shaun

Edit:
Tempted to drive to the top of the hill I live on (Drumbrea) and take some pictures.
If I dont reply soon, you will know it hit my area. Its the area JUST Next to mine. it total darkness.

Wonder if its anything to do with the sun?

Our electric company supplies a phone number to call to report a power outage. If they've figured out why the power is out, they leave a recorded message for anyone phoning to let them know what the problem is (if they know), and the expected time for the power to be turned back on.

Is there anything like that available there? It's really handy to know if it was just an accident, and whether they expect it to be a long outage.

no gentlemen with tarmac waggons towing a few tonnes of red covered power cables driving around ?

as alot of it is some idiot trying to pull out a substations power cables and messing up which trips out other substations and so you get an area wide drop out

Please get some photos.
If you have a Sony Handycam, use the night vision option and video tape the area and sky as well.
Let us know and be careful.

Use and InfraRed filter as well.

this wouldn't be a conspiracy site if we didn't ask this one xD

if theres no power how are you posting this message?

don't get me wrong i'm just trying to rule out the obvious, same way you can rule out a problem with a dvd player if its not pluged in.

ed: regarding the sun

www2.nict.go.jp...
www.swpc.noaa.gov...

seams to have been (relatively) quiet for over a day now.

www.swpc.noaa.gov...

nothing spectacular on the graph either.

my bad I am not familiar with scotlands geography, seperate area from the blackout I assume.

I have found one recent link to this in mainstream but the link is timing out =( the description mentions something about BT being floored by outages in belfast and london aswell. for the sake of it and if it returns, or its just my end, heres said link.

www.macworld.co.uk...

... a power failure at an exchange in Birmingham. The problem has affected customers in cities such as London, Belfast and Edinburgh, according to the BBC. ...

thats all I can see of the descript unfortunaly.

OK...

Went up and took a picture from top of the hill.
And sure enough, the entire north/centreal area of Edinburgh was in darkness....
The water is The River Forth...
Fife is over the water...
The area I have circled is about 8 miles in side (ish)

You back up?
My son said it went off, came on, went off then stayed off for a while.
I went a took a picture from the Drumbrea Leasure Centre, looking directly north. Looked like a LONG bit of North Edinburgh was out. I have other pictures, but this is the best one....sadly.

Shaun

Edit:
Looking at that photo again, it looks like it went west and east a bit more also...
