Its incredibly stupid to believe that these kids didn't have an ulterior motive when they chose to wear those shirts. They were trying to send a message. They knew it, everyone knew it. The principal was wrong in suspending the kid for asking why, but totally justified in making them take off the shirts. You can expect most reasonable people to keep a level head when faced with something they might consider offensive, but we are talking about a high school full of teenagers; most of which are anything but level headed when they face something like that. Administrators have to consider the safety of hundreds or even thousands of kids. Brawls can spark from much less, I have been caught in the middle of a few.

This reminds me of the Arab students at Edsel Ford High School in Michigan that made the twin towers sweat shirts. I remember a lot of right wing rage when they announced those kids weren't being suspended.

I am a retired IT person from a small Jr College. As a state funded school, we could not block porn sites from the "computer lab" computers . We turned one row of computers with their monitors facing a wall these were the pc next to the wall.. These had full uncontrolled access to the internet. These were the only computers like that on campus. We controlled all of the other computers to what they were able to access to the point of what related to software that was used for that class. My point is all it will take is a letter from some legal group to threaten a law suit of their depriving the students 1st amendment right The school board will cave. They have no choice unless somebody will defend them for free. Even the ACLU would not do that.

So, are you saying the Border Patrol is "racist". Or, are you saying "illegal" is now a "race"? New Speak anyone? Love is hate, war is peace. Nice one.

While I don't believe their choice to wear the shirt was to express their appreciation toward the the U.S. Border Patrol, but rather their dislike of illegal immigrants; I, however, fully support whatever they choose to wear, regardless of what is printed on their shirt. This is America afterall, my parents were both illegal immigrants, who have now become U.S. citizens; I do take some offense to the shirts, but hey, this is America afterall, the greatest country on Earth.

I would have asked those kids why they were taking credit for something they had no part of? I mean asked them how they planted those cutter charges in WTC7 undetected? Then grilled them on why Bin Laden was trained by the CIA, and how they stole 2.3 trillion out the MOD Pentagon the day before they destroyed the evidence ?

You know where I am getting at

But yeah good points, I agree I guess you are right. However I am very much against political correctness and think it does more damage then what it is suppose to remedy. If i was the principal knowing they were trying to antagonize some Hispanic kids I would have let them on the bus so they could learn a lesson. What i mean is you cant stop the inevitable. If these kids wanted a fight they will find a way. Let them get it out the system. I never listened to my parents at that age I don't expect they listen to the principal. Heck they are inclined to rebel even more. A t shirt, Gang Colors, Dirty Looks. These are things they are going to happen. I guess what I am saying is Those kids will get what they are asking for one way or the other.

This is a perfect example of what is wrong with the country today. People start pushing and accepting the erosion of the Constitution. That is exactly how the banks and corporations gained control of our government. Freedom of speech is just that!!! Freedom Of Speech. We are becoming a society where somebody looks at someone, it is by that person as offensive, or intimidating. If something offends you, to damn bad! get over it and grow up. Kids can't even play little league with true competition any more, because we dont want little Johny to go home offended because his team lost. I have Not read anywhere in the Constitution, that says not being offended is a right. What happens if someone wears a No Obama shirt in public? is it going to be percieved as racist and should that person be subject to arrest or banned from doing so? Be extremly careful what you wish for, as for what you wish is alot closer than you think! When it completely happens it will be too late to undo, because the government will find it offensive and have you arrested for desent!!!

I see no reason why the Hispanic kids should be antagonized. If i wear a T shirt that says police around drug dealers and they get nervous or become intimidated am i the bad guy? The border Patrol deals with people who come here illegally. If people are offended by some high school kids in Border Patrol T Shirts then they must be illegal hence they should not be here.

Simple.

Or maybe the drug dealers would kill you/attack you.

Just like these kids COULD have caused problems for themselves while wearing that type of shirt. The principle could see that wearing that type of shirt in that area COULD cause problems. Public schools aren't really free speech zones and its at the principles discretion.

I dont know what race the kids were that were wearing the shirts, but if they were "white" or not considered a "minority" then there COULD have been consequences for those teens and many others. If they were going to a prominently Mexican area wearing that shirt its obvious they COULD be instigating the Mexicans on that football team.

At the very least the Mexicans there could perceive it that way and if they did they could take physical action. No one wants to see kids get hurt, I think they principle could have acted in a more professional way, but not letting them wear that shirt on the bus to the event was a good call.

I would love to see these kids where these tshirts in the Mexican gang related areas and see what type of outcome they would have...... Hope they arent that stupid....

I like your take on this. Well put.

What I'm not seeing anyone talk about though is the fact that they wore the shirts on what was a school wide " no hate" day. This had nothing to do with the Border Patrol IMO. This was simply a bunch of kids who wanted to slap authority in the face by wearing something that is sensitive at this point in time, and they got slapped back. They probably have no clue what the Border Patrol actually does.

Everyone is so concerned that everything that anyone does may be politically motivated, that they can't see the emotional forest through the PC trees. These were just kids who did something really stupid. The principle isn't much better either IMO. The whole thing was handled wrong on both sides of the fence. The principle is supposed to be the adult here and this whole affair was not handled in a very mature or responsible way.

Yes shock value, maybe they wanted a reaction? Turn some heads in a way TROLL the football game? My sense of humor has gotten me in trouble before because i have off beat dark humor call it an acquired taste. Yet totally misunderstood by the common place typical guy. The kid asked the principal when he made him take off the shirt after requesting speaking to him ? This is not behavior of someone who is in hot water imho, perhaps he wanted to explain why he was wearing the shirt? But the principal was acting silly and refused dialogue.

I wore Slayer T #s and black metal in school that did not bode well with the religious folk some "Dark sided stuff" in the words of God Warrior just to go against the grain. Teenagers have that non complacency stage they go through. I agree you have to put things in perspective here. The kid never got his day in court.

Do you actually understand the function of the border patrol? Do you understand it keeps millions of dollars of drugs and guns out of this country and criminals? It keeps this country safe. Much like the FBI. Or sheriff’s department.
Go back to school. Learn a few things. Or else be quiet and let the grownups talk.

I thought it was the other way round.

Apparently millions of dollars worth of drugs and guns DO get into the country and the USA is far from 'safe'.

Im with the posters that are saying the kids wore those shirts cos the game was in a region where lots of latinos reside.

Dont tell anyone to be quiet, you obviously dont know the difference between your ear hole and your bum hole.

First everyone is Nazis... now they're Stalin... Next they'll be pink kangaroos if the US political right preaches it at the next debate, I'm sure. What were you saying about insanity? Because the last 2 paragraphs of the OP wreaks of it by the way.

You don't read much other than interpretable fiction do you?

These kids clearly organized this to make some immature, generalizing "statement" that their hard-right parents put in their heads and they are incapable of understanding. They should have been allowed on the bus, but reminded by the faculty of how childish they were being.

I'm also not inclined to believe that the kids in those pictures acted calmly and humanely. Your OP is incredibly biased and has no real quotes that you don't make up on the spot. I'm sure the kid wasn't just "politely asking why"... give me a break, look at him. Just another horde of brainless jocks pretending they know something to make it look like their penises aren't infantile if you ask me.

If you have any more partisan nonsense to preach as if it makes you analytical, I'd be glad to hear it. If not only because you sound like Rick Perry, and it's making me laugh.

I can't help but ...know... that these kids parents' would blame the principal 1000% for it if the kids were attacked. No double standard from that end of the political spectrum as usual

So you have to be hard right to support the border patrol , keeping the borders safe?

Weird , liberals scream about the fact that we need to bring our troops home and protect our own land, yet make the border patrol out to be racist....

They scream about freedom of speech when they think THEYVE been violated, but dont want it when they feel they have been offended........

Typical.................and indicative of whats wrong in America..............

All of you who have responded on this board speaking out against the fact that they wore these shirts.....

I never want to see on any forum about free speech, you have lost all merit......

Freedom of speech is freedom of speech, it doesnt matter if it offends you.........

The only people that should be "offended" by the Border Patrol are illegals.......and in that case, i really dont care

In the words of Jim Carey "STOP BREAKIN THE LAW **** HOLE!"

I stopped reading when you accused me of being a liberal. Don't make me laugh, partisan fool. If you're assuming that these kids didn't plan to wear these shirts to stir the pot, then you're ignoring the blatant truth to cry about how un-republican the country is. Get real. These kids are brats, but they deserve their right to "speak", at the same time, the principal has to do waht he has to do to make sure they don't get shanked at a football game. I know that this is very hard to understand for people who think everyone subscribes to a polar end of the politial spectrum, but the obvious truth is directly in front of you, stop tip-toeing around it.
