The Border Patrol aren't slave owners. You're comparing apples to oranges.

OK, let me put it to you this way: "So it would be Ok for ME that I am not a border patrol agent to show up to a game were most of the students are black wearing a shirt saying salve owner? Why would anyone be offended, no one is a slave and the shirt didn't mention anything about race?get the point and bigger picture now? These students wore these shirts not to show support for the border patrol.

Yes, we get it, Border Patrol are not slave owner nor the students were Border Patrol agents!!

IN the earlier decades, the so called "principle, would be sucking his meal through a straw for the rest of his unnatural life, for disciplining a child by an authoritative head figure..

I could give a rat's A&s myself over the illegal immigration problem (like cockroaches, they tend to scurry away from any type of organized opposition).. but the point is:

The students did nothing wrong, they wore "T-Shirts", plain and simple, not "I hate Latinos", or "Got your Green Card?" slogan type shirts, which could be considered offensive in this BS "PC" world we have today..

My father would have "buried" that principle after having destroyed his whole "Familia " before him for even attempting to get me in trouble (well trouble I did not bring on myself that is Heh!) but that is when you were able to defend yourself, and your own blood..

The kids were in the right, the school, and that PF principle, were (ARE) in the wrong.. plain and simple...

Typical strawn man argument. These kids purposely wore the shirts to be provocative and insulting (likely because their parents are ignorant and thus learned it from them).

So, you're a mind reader too? There seems to be a lot of you people on ATS.

Truth can sometimes be amusing...in a sad way.

Yes, legal immigrants, like my parents from Nigeria. Key word...LEGAL.

Are you equating my dark skin to a turd? RACIST!!!! Just kidding, I know you're not making a racist statement. The "disrespectful" part. Now, throw that in with calling some one a "turd". Classic!

ALL those kids could have been kicked out of school for that stunt. I think the principal was far too lenient on the single student that was punished.

Do you feel the same way when they fly a Mexican flag over a U.S. public school? How about when hispanic kids wear a Che Guevara shirt? Should kids wearing a Navy shirt be tossed out. What about kids wearing a SEAL Team 6 shirt? What if there are Muslims in the school? Should they all be kicked out too?

Let me make this really simple for you. How do you PROVE your statement above? You can't. So, you're SPECULATING! Just like the principal was SPECULATING that hispanic kids hate the border patrol. Like I've said in earlier posts. I find it funny that a white principal is speaking for the hispanic kids in another city. Maybe he should speak for blacks and Asians too. He seems well "qualified".

Edit: It's almost 11:30 here. Gotta get to bed, because 5:00am will be here soon. Have a good night.

These kids are lucky they didnt wear shirts like that to my high school because they most definately would have either been harassed or out right assaulted if they gave the wrong answer as to why they are wearing those shirts.

The first amemdment gives people freedom of speech but they have to be prepared for the repercussions.

Do you honestly believe those little ****heads were wearing those border patrol shirts because they think the border patrol is cool?

The "reason" behind "why" they wore them doesn't matter. The Border Patrol is a U.S. Federal Law Enforcement Agency. They are not the Nazi Party, or the KKK. Anyone who is offended by these shirts are the ones who have the mental problem.

Where's your support of the 1st Amendment?

It's comparable to anyone of the latino pueblo kids wearing a shirt saying "I hate Honkeys", you think the 1st Ammendment would have them protected in that situation?

No it isn't. If you feel that way please do yourself and the rest of us a favor and leave this country. Would you say the same if a felon got all bent out of shape over someone wearing an FBI shirt? The reason behind it is irrelevant as is your argument.

The problem is you're assuming an awful lot without facts to support it. Do you know these kids? Where you there? If not, then you have assumed their guilt. They may very well have worn the shirts for the reasons stated here, but I saw nothing here about these students being known for racial slurs or belonging to a racist organization. A shirt reading "border patrol" alone is not a racist statement. If there were many Iraqi children at the school, would we be saying it was racist to wear USMC shirts? Hell, what if the kids uncle works in the border patrol? I doubt it, but again, we are assuming things to arrive at a racist conclusion.

I live near Pueblo Colorado, and in defense of the principle: These kids should not have been allowed on the buss representing their school. Reason: Pueblo has a predominantly Mexican population, simply put these kids where attempting to goad people (probably the the team and members of the school). But in Pueblo the parents and others probably would have taken action against the T-shirts as well. In all fairness even if the point of wearing the shirts was not to be antagonistic it would not have mattered to those who thought that was the case, generally teenagers dont stop to ask " are you attempting to be racist".

By not allowing these kids wearing the clothing in question onto the bus I believe he was protecting them from their own stupidity.

In opposition to the principle: He should gave a clear reason as to why they where not being allowed on the bus. Also there should have been no punishment to these kids (or kid) , but I believe that they probably where being smart asses...I mean come on they are teenagers after all.

So I read the thread front to back, and first, a bit of humor to lighten up the mood:

Way back on pg 1 or 2 someone likened this to wearing a DEA shirt to a hippie-fest. Not really a good analogy: What are the hippies gonna do, hacky-sack him to death?

OK, a couple points that stood out to me about this debate:

First, the Left, and specifically the immigrant's rights groups, have done an amazing job cementing the two distinct ideas of racism and immigration. One cannot profess support of our nation's border rights without someone viewing that belief as racist.
It's wrong, plain and simple. I can be a completely peaceful, integrated human being and still have concerns regarding illegal immigration. The race of immigrants is such a non-issue in the discussion. Illegal immigration has many significant negative economical and social impacts. We have heard some of them in this thread.

Schools teaching to the minority students' levels.
Strains to state assistance programs.
Major strains to healthcare and emergency services.
Increased crime rates.
Increased illegal activity on weak borders
Reverse racism (which is why I took my family out of California, as much as I deeply miss my home)
The list goes on, without anything pointing to "this race" or that race".

My second thought is this: (and I have seen this in whitebreadbread schools here in Idaho as well) When did teachers and administrators get so frackin' stupid? Doesn't it scare you that these are the people we entrust our children with?! They are empty shells, devoid of free thought or backbone. They hide behind rules and regulation, fear open debate and honest dialogue. What can our kids possibly learn from these puppets of Newspeak?

Finally, I guess this is the most telling thought I had. If Latino kids get "Mexican Days" and can wear La Raza shirts freely without fear of violence, and white kids can't wear something as mild as a Border Patrol shirt without fear of violence, what does that say about the cultures of the two groups? Who has become the danger to whom?

I challenge anyone here in this discussion to show me a DIRECT connection between the United States Border Patrol and a distinct hate for any one race.

“I have numerous students this year who are Latino; I have Asian students; I even have a student from Africa. This message of hate sent by these students causes me to fear for the safety of my students as well as us teachers.”

The diversity of the students is a non-factor, correlating a shirt showing support for a US Military/Police Group to a message of hate is calling the group racist - not only the kids who support it. As many others have said, what if it was an ARMY or FBI shirt? This is also specifically saying that the students personally offended by this - aka minorities - are suspected to act violently in response which makes the teacher fear for safety. Wheres the real racism in this?

it would have only offended the illegals.

This is bs. i would be up the principals for this. in my old schools shirts that had swearing, sexual positions and things like that werent allowed. but that shirt is just "border patrol" it was the principals own opinion that stopped the bus ride not some law or legislation. I would be up his ass man.

Oh come on man....these kids where clearly attempting to antagonize people.

Wearing border patrol t-shirts to a highschool football game where the predominate race is Mexican, it wasn't accidental...

I agree, they probably were being smart asses, I just don't have any way to prove that, and I wouldn't want people assuming things about me. I agree with a statement someone else made here earlier (credit whoever, not going back hunting for it) that it was actually the principle who displayed the racist behavior by assuming Hispanics would be offended by it, thus indicating that maybe they should be offended by it from his point of view, because there is some kind of truth behind it. I hope you can decipher my poor sentence structure, I'm kind of tired today. Anyway, as I posted earlier, the majority of border patrol gents is Hispanic, which makes sense because you would want agents who could speak Spanish if they are working on that Border. Maybe not up towards Canada so much. I live in Texas, and honestly, I don't even care about illegal immigration. As an American, I sometimes fall in that mindset of thinking people should do it the legal way. Then, I remember I am a human before I am an American, and I think, "who in the hell has the right to draw imaginary lines around the globe and say certain people can cross it and others can't and since you were born there you have to stay there. We are born into a system, and there is no way out. There is no land that I know of where you can go and live without being under the authority of some system that dictates how you can live your life. I reject the system, but there aren't any other options. Okay, time to reign myself back in, went out a couple of miles there.

I'm talking ideals, the end result. We're all human beings. We were born on earth. We are equal to everyone and everything and no man should be allowed to stop another man from paving his way wherever he so desires as long as he's not harming anyone.
In that sense, yeah, I am for a one world government, but not by this regime and not the way it seems to be going down.
We should be earthlings, not American, African, Chinese, Mexican. Sure, we are those things, but they shouldn't define us... We're the ones that made the definitions in the first place.

Lemme guess what the Principal's heritage was?

I wont go there, but yeah this was obviously something personal in nature. The Principal was obviously out of line. Border Patrol is not offensive or a racist organization. No more then Homeland Security all though i hate homeland security it is almost the same thing. What if the kids were wearing ICE Immigration T shirts? Or ATF T shirts? Where does this failure of a Principal draw the line? Then to ban the parents from school grounds? The kid asked a question. That principal has no business in that position. This happens in positions of authority all too often.

I would get a lawyer if I were those Kids parents and put that jerk in his place.

There comes no support of the 1st Amendment from socialists, and this site has its fair share of them. They are pretty much unabashedly open about their beliefs, since they think they are winning the battle for the U.S. Too bad for them that they don't believe in owning guns.

This story just reinforces my resolve to never allow my children to set foot in a public school, except to VOTE.

I see no reason why the Hispanic kids should be antagonized. If i wear a T shirt that says police around drug dealers and they get nervous or become intimidated am i the bad guy? The border Patrol deals with people who come here illegally. If people are offended by some high school kids in Border Patrol T Shirts then they must be illegal hence they should not be here.

Simple.
