You still haven't said if you changed your habits. I was personally tempted to go about my daily business to see how much of a difference doing it their way made, but I always end up feeling guilty running anything at peak hours. Which really does suck, because I work evenings

Ours went up a lot when they put us on it too.

About 40.00 a month. We didn't start using more - in fact, we changed to the ugly lightbulbs.

It is going to have to get really bad before we go to those " ugly light bulbs"

Thanks for the laugh and the unput.

Did you honestly think that Daddy Dalton was installing these out of the goodness of his heart and his main concern was the taxpayer.

He used his bean counters and figured out this was yet a way to get more money of the tax payers, yet, pretend that he is only concerned about the environment. Someone has to pay for all your wind mills and solar panels.

Well it looks like our government is making more unemployed people by eliminating meter readers.
And the Obama regime marchers onward.

Well if you can chat them up and see what they think about it? I mean they get paid but yeah they have to go home and look at their meter too.
Let us know,

great, thanks. now what was the same info from your october bill from 2010?
That is the only way to know what has changed, if anything. If you dont have the bill, and it is not on your bill (my NS bill always has last years usage for comparison) then you can get the info by calling. It doesnt make a lot of sense to compare this bill to the last one really, you have to compare it to the same dates as last year.

actually in this case it is the perfect comparison as in 60 days ago we were using the air conditioning quite a bit as August was a very warm month here.
July was a record month for heat, so now the next two following months we are running the furnace which I said is gas or the windows are wide open due to the temperate weather we had here in September.....Nice days around 70 f

Sorry there I missed your post please forgive me, as far as habits go we have not changed a thing here.
Two people produce little laundry and little dirty dishes, two showers a day, and the wife is gone all day to work and I am a stay at home person.
I don't have lights on, unless needed, no waste no tv, no nothing but this computer and two ceiling fans running.

no, not a perfect comparison. season's change. I am not going to go into detail about it right now as I have a lot of homework to get to. If you dont want to trust my word and compare your bill to the bill for october 2010 then i can offer no more input. Have a great day

....yes , chat them up, and see if by any chance you can get a hold of say a ' defective one'
. I can imagine with some creative experimentation, one can happen accross its machine language protocols and instead of sending sensitive energy data to the money grubbing folks, you send them for example, satanic veal recipes.....just in time for Halloween .....

Is this that proposal aka threat...that if you don't comply, there will be vans traveling about with x-ray equipment to look into your home to see if you're complying?
I might not be explaining it properly but.....let me ask it this way: Were you forced to switch?

I think what I am thinking of is over in the UK.

I'll see if I can find it on my computer and will post it.

Well, my man and I are in the same boat: mid-size house and just the two of us. It seems really strange that your bill is so high. I don't think shifting a few loads of laundry to the evening would make the difference of 70.00 but it couldn't hurt to give it a shot. It could be a fun experiment to see if it saves

Found it.
I was wrong as far as this is a device to see if you're wasting energy (not if you installed something) but you best believe, they'll be working in tandem in no time!

Council uses spy plane with thermal imaging camera to snoop on homes wasting energy

I tried to explain to you that the last bill included some of the hottest weather we have ever ever had here.
Air conditioners consume electricity big time yes?
The last bill was lower by $70.00 and change and if you throw in the election goodies (30 bucks off) for this bill then the last bill was actually lower by over $ 100.00 dollars.
That includes over one month (AUG) of almost straight air conditioning.
Go to that homework and I hope it is math,

Thanks for the input and Regards, Iwinder

Just to add to what another UK poster said, just today I phoned my gas and electric supplier. I wanted to know what my new monthly charges were going to be. I pay British Gas who supply both. I pay monthly, so they work out my costings based on past consumption. My monthly combined bill has gone from £100 to £140 a month and that is based on the lst three months where I have not had my heating on! Don't think I will be putting my heating on any time soon because I am dreading what it will go up to based on my winter consumption. I am seriously considering having card meters installed as British Gas has the same rate as standard price for their 'pay as you go' meters. Meter runs out, lights go out, and I will be lighting and heating my home with tilly lamps and candles. Has anyone else in the UK noticed a lack of candles on shop shelves by the way? If I was a conspiracy theaorist I would be thinking there is a lack of them deliberately to make sure we have to use electricity!

Ooops, sorry about that. I was driving by and needed a connection to the internet, used your meter to surf the web and download some porn, maybe I stayed a little too long. Ooops :-)

I do NOT LIKE those new smart meters. Smart for who? Time to suppliment with power from another source.

We live in South western Ontario here and just got our fist smart ass bill and here are the stats.
We are billed for 60 days or two months here at a time.
We are on gas heat and gas hot water and only two of us here in a fairly small house.
This bill is higher by $70.00 bucks and that includes the 10% energy reduction bonus....(Election this week) go figure how long this 10% lasts after the election.
So here we are paying 70 bucks more already and this is the slow time for electricity here just wait till we have the air conditioning going......"It will be right to the moon"
Anyone here in Ontario or wherever chime in, we would like to know your thoughts and what your increases are or have been.

this bill is only 70 more, they grow with each statement you recieve, our bill before smart meter, ( 3 1/2 years ago) was around 125.00 in summer, it didnt increase all at once it took to this summer to see the real outcome, we fear next summers bills. we are all electric with 2 of us husband and myself, we set the A.C at 78. our water water heater is set on low, all our outside lights are solar. our average summer bill this summer is 350.00

same here in the uk.. prices have been constantly going up for years now. gas and electric..

they have just announced another massive hike in the gas prices, conveniently in time for autumn and winter..

Scottish Power is going to increase domestic gas prices by 19% in August has shocked consumers already reeling from high inflation and static wages. The rise is bound to be followed by double-digit increases by the rest of the industry, and will make for a miserable autumn for thousands of hard-pressed families across the country.

www.telegraph.co.uk... e-higher-energy-bills.html

British Gas has announced a price rise of 18%

This will bring the average annual cost of a standard dual fuel bill from £1,096 to £1,288, and affect 9 million of its customers.

The news will come as a shock for British Gas customers who last experienced a price rise in December, when the company increased its prices by 6.9% or £43 for gas and 6.7% or £28 for electricity.

www.uswitch.com... utilities/british-gas-price-rise-of-18-on-gas-and-16-on-electricity-announced-900000352/

in the space of a year gas has gone up almost 25 per cent in the uk..

all the time the companies mentioned are making huge profits.. its been reported british gas make 3m profit a day!!

Here we go for sure, 18% how can they justify that ?
