The cause of the explosion was not immediately known although it was suspected that it might have been caused by chemicals. One person, who had suffered severe burns, was airlifted by emergency helicopter to King's College Hospital, London, and many others were being taken to the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.

I drive that way home when I need to avoid the M23.. There are lots of small specialised businesses operating in the area supporting Gatwick.. these places are much cheaper to rent than those closer to the airport.. so guess it could be one of those.. Hope the missing people turn up ok.

It would be handy to get feedback from any military/ex military ATS members in the area who heard the explosion-there are many different sounding explosions, but military types can usually recognize the bomb type.
I am not saying it was a bomb, just wondering-also if anyone in the area can smell the smoke-What does it smell like?
That could tell us more about the blast as well.

Is it the Hobbs industrial estate in Newchapel?
Here are a list of businesses from there, not sure if its the place though..

Hope its nothing sinister, and the missing are safe.
