As a veteran, I feel a little uneasy to see this separation placed between veterans and non-veterans. It is an embarrassment to see how any citizen is treated by police under these circumstances, be they veterans or not.

Hmmm? This attendance by the US Marines in uniform could bite them when they get back to base?
They had better be careful. For the most part, I have not paid much attention to this protest, their message, or activities on Wallstreet. They seem like your usual Socialist and Communist lot? Spread the wealth, eat the rich, and so on as so forth. They ought go back to their coffee shops or college campuses to spew their propaganda. I agree the little guy is getting raked over the coils. I had that feeling long before these protesters left Long Island and the Hamptons to occupy Wallstreet. Who are they kidding? Go back to Starbucks or entertain themselves with their smartphones and IPads. They are just looking for attention, and I would be amazed if these activists truly come from the lifestyles they claim to be in support of? Very skeptical about this engagement on Wallstreet. I guess I am a perpetual cynic? As for these Marines, if they are on active duty it would be in their best interests to use caution before proceeding.edit on 1-10-2011 by Jakes51 because: (no reason given)
They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.
They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.
They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless nonhuman animals, and actively hide these practices.
They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.
They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.
They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press.
They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians supposed to be regulating them.
They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantive profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad.
They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.
They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts.
I still feel that it is White House directed, to mislead the public as to the real people at fault.

As far as Social Security goes, it was supposed to be a separate trust fund that the US Government was not to count as part of it's budget and make no appropriations from except that required to operate the program. Every time the government has borrowed from that fund, they have broken the law.
Next, the brief described the Act. Title II’s old-age benefits "are gratuities (not based on contract, but based on a Congressional direction expressly subject to amendment or repeal)." Title VIII’s taxes "are not earmarked for any special purpose." They are "true taxes, their purpose being simply to raise revenue . . . available for the general support of Government." But in 1935 the Administration had told Congress and the public that the purpose of the taxes was to build up a fund to pay old-age annuities. Obviously, the reason for calling Social Security’s levies "true taxes" was to argue that they were valid exercises of the taxing power, which the brief did. It also argued that indigence in old age was a national problem too big for private charity and state governments, and that old-age benefits were therefore valid expenditures to promote the general welfare. Since the titles were valid separately, they were valid in combination, too

Before you rant, do your research.
At least try to be informed.
Army serviceman Ward Reilly posted the following on Facebook, “I'm heading up there tonight in my dress blues. So far, 15 of my fellow marine buddies are meeting me there, also in Uniform.
Battle lines being drawn
nobody's right, if everybody's wrong
young people speakin their minds
getting so much resistance from behind
it's time we stop, children
what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down
what a field day for the heat
a thousand people in the street
singing songs and carrying signs
mostly say 'hurray for our side'
it's time we stop,
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

What a joke you think that over 200 years of continuous history is a failure?
Meanwhile look at countries like China and Russia, Their system of Government have change hands so many times it hard to keep track.
I think your standards are confused. All history is continuous, that's what makes it history. If your standard is set by ruling regimes, well, the US changes hands every four to eight years. if you mean peaceful transfers of that power, well, we can only claim 146 years for that one (Less, if you think Johnson offed Kennedy or that Bush stole elections.) if you mean the stability of one particular system of government, well, we've been an oligarchy ever since a bunch of wealthy planters and tradesmen sat down and wrote up a document that existed for them and people like them (yeah, that part about not being able to vote if you're not wealthy? That's not actually democracy. Thought you might like to know)
Which brings us to my point. The system we have is, by its nature corrupt, beholden to the interests of plutocrats rather than the populace as a whole. we have demonstrated a few times that it is possible to reform some aspects of the system, by attacking and defeating the root cause of the disenfranchisement. So. Why not go for the gusto, and rip the "landed gentry" from their position of control?
it's not going to happen by patiently waiting every couple of years to "elect" a new crop of pre-invested puppets. You want to fix the system, you go after what's causing the goddamned problem in the first palce.

This, more then anything else, is why "Occupy Wall Street" won't accomplish much more then short-term attention. Lack of focus, lack of cohesive goals, lack of direction and lack of management. It was doomed before it started (as a movement)
I beg to differ, ma'am. I have a different take on it for your consideration.
It's clear that the men behind the curtain here, the folks pulling the strings, are the collectivists. Just pick a list of demands at random and read through it with that in mind, and you'll see it. Another indication is the target they've picked. The gripes are more properly addressed by government, but inexplicably they've sent the crowd to Wall Street. One must wonder why that is, and the answer is that they already have a solid toe hold in government, and don't want to upset the apple cart by directing the protestors to DC, where some remedial action could be expected more so than from a bunch of bean counters in New York. Some of the demand lists specifically address their demands to DC, so why in the hell are they in New York to deliver them? They have a goodly number of these folks hoodwinked, having sold the event with whatever they wanted to hear.
Now they have their mob collected, with some still straggling in.
If this goes true to form as it has in other places with the same folks pulling the strings, they will start sending in organizers, like unions, to try to get this thing organized and give it a more pointed focus and direction. That's when you'll get better view of the Dragon's Head, and that's when the fireworks will start.
This is how it's done. More or less random mobs are collected, with their own individual gripes which are all over the map. The only thing in common is that the people in the mobs are always pissed off about something. The collectivist organizers channel that anger, give it a focus, and start throwing these people against the walls of the collectivists' choosing. It's easier to do with angry folk, whose emotions are already set to stun. You just work up the pitch, point 'em in a direction, and turn 'em loose.
All the while the top dawg organizers stand back from the action and watch the show. You'll never find them in the front. That's what underlings are for.
This serves as notice that it's known who the string-pullers are, and if they get our people hurt by misusing and misdirecting their best intentions, when the dust settles we will hunt them down like rabid dogs. There will be no hole deep enough, no mountain high enough, and no stone will be left unturned. Again, there will be hell to pay.
Not on our watch. Be careful of the wars you wish for.
