In addition to what they view as excessive force and unfair treatment of minorities, including Muslims, the movement is also protesting against home foreclosures, high unemployment and the 2008 bailouts. Filmmaker Michael Moore and actress Susan Sarandon have stopped by the protesters' camp, which is plastered with posters with anti-Wall Street slogans and has a kitchen and library, to offer their support.

Friday evening, more than 1,000 demonstrators, including representatives of labor organizations, held a peaceful march to police headquarters a few blocks north of City Hall to protest what they said was a heavy-handed police response the previous week. No arrests were reported.

A week ago, police arrested about 80 members of Occupy Wall Street near the Union Square shopping district as the marchers swarmed onto oncoming traffic. A police commander doused a handful of women with pepper spray in an incident captured on video and spread via the Internet, galvanizing the loosely organized protest movement. The group has gained support among some union members. The United Federation of Teachers and the Transport Workers Union Local 100, which has 38,000 members, are among those pledging solidarity.

The unions could provide important organizational and financial support for the largely leaderless movement.

This is getting more and more coverage, I find it very exciting.

If marines are there then they will be in plain clothes I imagine...

OP offers one stinking line of his own text ?

Well at least I knew ATS, when most of the members cared about the quality, of the threads that were posted..
The OP offers nothing as far as any insights or ideas about the topic he has posted. Just a line and some cut and paste and wham.

Crap, absolutely and positively.

"US Marines headed to Wall Street to protect protesters"

Are there not a group of Marine vets headed to Wall Street to protect protesters? What's misleading? Did I miss something?

I had another friend who had been with a company for years and years-who had moved here at his company's request a few years ago- suddenly and unexpectedly get laid off Friday along with several others.

I do not understand why people say the protestors do not work. They look like they are working to me. Getting paid to work for someone is not the only definition of work.

Monday's news coverage or lack there of will be very interesting.

that PC crap won't fly here.
the system of robbing Peter to pay Paul has been "unsustainable" for more than 40yrs, publicly, politically and generationally ... this is not news.

the word game has been long over-played and most aren't that gullible anymore. heck, the country has been aware of our unsustainable condition since the days of FDR.

So the dictionary is full of "pc crap" now? As I explained earlier, the subsidized industries are your "peter and paul" analogies on steroids yet you and other will gladly overlook these bloated fat cats in order to sneer at the single mother using food stamps.

actually, these days it is full of it ... from every direction ... would you like examples?
you are aware "new" words and "new/expanded" definitions are added annually, right?

i didn't disagree with subsidized industries being part of the problem. I disagree with the continued perception that robbing Peter to pay Paul is any kind of answer (which is what is being promoted at Wall St).

wrong again, i've been one of those mothers using food stamps. (while working even)
since you are so aware of my personal investment, please do tell the class who is financing this protest event?
perhaps some of those "bloated fat cats" you keep referencing?
someone is footing the bill ... maybe the UN, or the Soros foundations, or the Rockefellers or the Rothchilds or JP himself ... do tell since you are so wise yet clearly full of bull.

Anyone know on where they stand on this?

I agree about it not being wise to show up in full military uniform. The military will not look favorably on that.
I don't see a problem with wearing a t-shirt that expresses your military status though. IE "I AM FORMER US ARMY" or "I AM A US ARMY VET"

Surely that would be ok? I don't know the fine details, but I just remember they told us to be very, very careful of what we did and where we went in uniform.

Coward. Taking your Liberty back isn't about "Mother may I?"

Second line.

actually, if it wasn't backwards, it'd be a valuable contribution.
The FED owns, Wall St is the pimp and we are their prostitutes ... now do you see the full picture?
Wall St is nothing more than a pawn in the game, that's all.

obviously (by the duration and inflammation to date) TPTB are more than willing to sacrifice this pawn to save the ??? King / Fed ... are you really that misled?

You keep thinking they are pushing a socialist agenda and that it translates into your "Peter and Paul" shtick. How is being robbed through bailouts and subsidies not worse?! It's the same thing but BY THE BILLIONS.

And what bill are you talking about "footing"? You think it takes a lot of money to stand out side? You ever have a barbeque? It's the same thing except people aren't stuffing their faces talking about football and Jersey Shore. If there are sponsorships, it's minimal. If it were significant, don't you think there would be more msm coverage?

You posted a bunch of pseudo facts by fundamentalism sites. I googled them and they all took me various Rush Limbaugh wannabes. I didn't want to keep it up because I realized who I was arguing with. I can't have a conversation with somebody who gets information from the same sources that claim that homosexuality has an "agenda" and that Obama was born in Kenya. The only sources you actually quoted from UN affiliates was from Strong... and I AGREED with it.

Actually, the original title said that "troops" were headed to the protest to protect the protesters, and it was misleading because it was really only a handful. The title has been changed since.

I guess you missed the guidelines for posting a thread. If you ask me they should be upgraded to rules that if violated? Carries a three day post ban.

I don't think it's right that a member can work his but off to provide an excellent thread, with tons of text that provide signposts to where the discussion and debates can begin. Packed full of info and graphs and takes alot of work obviously..

Then someone offers up a crap thread like this and, well just look at the results. When two lousy paragraphs of text from the OP like I said ? Shuts me up completely. I'm not talking from a position where this has happened to me either. So I'm not all butt hurt over anything. Not for a minute. Because my best thread barely made it over 100 flags.

At ATS the members are the quality.

You know this is why I find these guys to be an appropriate Yin to the Tea Party's Yang. One can erode the Fed while the other reforms Wall Street and we'll all meet in the middle.

Seriously, they are both issues and we should both cheer on anybody who is trying to do something about it. I cheered on the crazy Tea Partiers so they can cheer on these guys.

Cuervo, they ARE pushing a socialist agenda ... all over the place, in signs, in speech, in interviews, how could you possibly miss it?

I never said i support the current system but i sure don't support this protest or the premise that drives it.
IF you are so naive to think a few 'well intentioned' folks just decided to come together (at this time, at this location) and make a statement, you are beyond naive and foolish.

and yes, it's taking bunches of $$ to sustain the aimlessly wandering mass.
if you don't see it, then you cannot see the systematic dysfunction supposedly being protested.

msm coverage?? only when it suits the agenda of the day.
as is proven over and over and over, annually and globally, pick a day ... i can show you multiple instances of them looking the other way. what does msm have to do with this anyway?

This protest is awesome but I fear it's too late. We are already surrounded by cloaked craft, monitored, and most of all the government has very advanced weapons.

I don't mean to minimize the rest of what you said but I wanted to clarify. The reason I brought up the msm is because, if it were funded by some heavy hitters, don't you think they'd have more interest from the media? Balloon Boy was on the front page for a week yet these guys barely get a nod in their direction.

As to the rest of what you said: I see it but I don't think it should detract from the point. If there aren't enough "non-socialists" then maybe you should join their ranks and influence them. It's not a members-only protest.

pseudo facts? No..... I would love to see what you come up with to refute the actual material.

Here, take it from the UN itself

www.un.org...

Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment.

The Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) was created in December 1992 to ensure effective follow-up of UNCED, to monitor and report on implementation of the agreements at the local, national, regional and international levels. It was agreed that a five year review of Earth Summit progress would be made in 1997 by the United Nations General Assembly meeting in special session.

The full implementation of Agenda 21, the Programme for Further Implementation of Agenda 21 and the Commitments to the Rio principles, were strongly reaffirmed at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in Johannesburg, South Africa from 26 August to 4 September 2002.
