Interesting title. What is it that the U.S. is being warned about?

The issue of EMP dangers to the Earth – either from a CME, a coronal mass ejection, which is an eruption of power from the sun, or from a nuclear-triggered EMP wave intended to destroy a society – have been the subject of multiple reports in recent months.

Seems the upcoming Solar Max is moving beyond the Fear Mongering level and into the cold hard facts section....

not sure if you noticed but the article is from august of 2010..............year old

Where are these cold hard facts you speak of? The government are the biggest fearmongers of all time

Government's been Bs'ing us since the beginning of time, what makes this any different.

We haven't passed their "worry about dates" as they are trying to predict something that has so many variables that it is nearly impossible to do accurately with our current understanding of solar activity. We know for a FACT that the sun is capable of emitting such powerful electromagnetic pulses that it could easily destroy our power grid infrastructure. The fact that we don't have any fail-safes in place for such an eventuality is staggering. There is a big difference between fear-mongering based on outlandish ideas, and intelligent people attempting to warn us based on scientific observation. Based on what small understanding we have of solar cycles, we are way overdue for another crippling blow to our communications and power infrastructure. While they may be way off in their predictions of when this will happen, that doesn't change its inevitability.

i agree with your assesment of the article, and i agree that this a real probability.

i was simply pointing out to the op that this was not a aug of 2011 article, and i believe we have a whole years of more recent articles to consider.
