Hmmm... A member in Oregon started a thread a short while ago to inform us of their cat acting freaky.

Could you tell us roughly where you are?

Mike

Nope, but I'd imagine my dog is PROBABLY going a little crazy if the squirrels in the back yard are giving him a hard time yet again today. Will check when I get home.

Poor little mutt gets so worked up over it, and they do it on purpose.

seems the usual autumn rush for food to store for the winter, or restlessness before the flight south.

I have this squirrel that is the dominate "man of the tree" in the corner of my front yard. He is always around but if I go towards him he will run up the tree and stay there till I leave.

This morning I left for work and this little bastage was sitting on the running board of my truck. I walked right up to him and actually had to shoo him off with my foot. He still sat right next to my truck and didn't move until I pulled out the drive.

I know it's not a "wierd" story, but it was completely out of the norm for him to not run when I made an appearance outside. I'll have to see what he is doing when I get home!

Things where I am in Texas are normal as can be.

But road killed squirrels are also pretty normal where I am.... Not the brightest creatures in the world. They have a way, of running INTO your car as you are coming, instead of away from them. At least the ones around here do.

Okay, the UK. Well at least that rules out any US seismic influences, I expect.

Hmmm... They're forecasting a heat wave for next month? That's interesting. We're also having wuite warm weather here but I don't know about next month.

However we had a miserable summer and some birds are probably making the most of feeding up before they clear off for winter. Not sure how your summer was, though.

we've never heard so much chatter from our flying friends as we have today

we can only assume they are saying

"it's nearly october, we're suppossed to be migrating but it feels like july"

How had the squirrels died? were they the victims of traffic or other factors and were they red or grey squirrels?

I am unsure of today, but Aug. 24 was the first day we heard no birds - so noticeable that I decided to post a thread to see if it was happening anywhere else.

Well, there are 10 pages of posts, from ats members in various places on the planet - who also reported a lack of birds, strangeness in wild and domestic animals; wildlife strangeness occurring in way more places and ways than I ever could have imagined.

Members are still reporting oddities.

Only because I saw that you did not post on it, here it is:

No birds singing today.. strange quiet

I just wonder if perhaps the unseasonally hot weather at the moment has temporarily disrupted their usual pre winter gathering activities causing some confusion in the squirrel ranks! or could they be detecting/sensing changes to Earths magnetic field?
