The criminals use the Roma because they are poor.

So the Roma get a bad name. But probably mostly from the non-Roma criminals who also want a piece of the action!

Honest people don't solve things this way. Weakened people can be played against each other by people who are taking advantage of both sides. After all, who are the customers of the criminal groups? How do they stay active and protected in a country where their ethnic group is discriminated against?

There is more behind this than meets the eye.

The Roma are as capable as any other group in Europe of being peaceful and honest.

And not only the Roma are being taken advantage of by criminal elements, I am sure.

If it seems otherwise, it is only because the sources of the criminal activity want it to seem that way.

A major TV celebrity, on prime time TV, has just made a joke (literally a couple of minutes ago).

"A gypsy boy asks his father what is democracy? The father replies that democracy is when whites work and gypsies get free housing and welfare. The boys asks whether the whites don't get angry about this. To which the father replies "Yes, but then that's called racism""

That's the current situation here. I wonder if there will be backlash.

There is great tension present between majority and Roma people here in Slovakia, too. They live like in some third world country, 70 % unemployment, finishing elementary school is considered a success, order of magnitude higher rate of crimes, and their numbers continue to rise. Sadly, I dont see any realistic solution in sight, and I expect things will get worse in time.

The situation in Romania is fairly similar.

Some time ago on the news they were talking about a gipsy family that asked the state to pay for their heating bills because they were poor.

While owning a huge palace.

And covered in gold from head to toe.

These kind of people give a bad name to Romas. A lot of people think of them as leeches and thieves and nothing but a hindrance to the society.

Few gypsies have shown us otherwise.

Your gypsies are a lot richer than the ones here.
BTW - I love Romania. I didn't like it first time i went 14 years ago because of the corruption and bad police but when i went last year i was stunned to see how much it's improved. Beautiful country (I drove all over it).
Still too many feral dogs though...
It's funny but in Romania there are police cars and feral dogs at the side of the road but in Bulgaria it's gypsy prostitutes....

Sadly the corruption is still there, just less obvious.

It makes me sad thinking about the situation evolving in Bulgaria. Hopefully things will settle down soon without further bloodshed.
Also, the proximity is something to worry about. This might spread to other countries that have similar problems with the Roma people. People that are fed up with them are pretty much everywhere.

The gypsies protested in Slovakia in a few places last week, led by a white guy, but there wasn't any trouble. The skinheads are too busy attacking students and homeless people - fighhting gypsies is not a good idea as one quickly turns into a hundred as their families come to the rescue.

Regardless of ethnicity, every human in Bulgaria is a citizen, fully entitled to all that it entails to being a citizen, regardless if 'bulgarian' or 'gypsies' immigrants. We are all humans first, brothers and sisters all, with only common aims in our journey of life regardless of our differences.

There are some whom claimed derisively that american perspectives are based upon self righteous 'titan morality'. Many point to the red indians, indigenous peoples of america. There were admittedly flawed policies then, but today, look at them. Many of them had aspired or are on the way to the american dream - entreprenuers, congressmen, senators, -contributors of society.

Point is, humans are flawed, and make mistakes in every imaginable way. But we do have the capacity to realize such errors, and correct them, so that we, brothers and sisters can progress and evolve. Just as the red indians had today, no different from any other american and whom had and will lay down his/her life for society when threatened, and to slog so that it will progress, sufferings alleviated and lives elevated.

Who were these 'americans' today? They were only immigrants from every corner of Planet Earth, welcome by noble and enlightened founding fathers. The inscription on the Statue of Liberty, that greeted all new immigrants then, encapsulate the joyous and embracing of fellow humans:-

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

It's already 200+ years since that statue and inscription was placed. And anyone can see the truth in that statement in today's financial turmoil. Despite all that happened, mankind trusted USA enough to place their only belongings in this world - wealth - in USA and hopes it will protect it.

It was USA that the children of Libyan rebels that pleaded to, - Mama Clinton - to help save them when faced with a murderous powerful thugs in their country. I can list more. It will be history. But only truth. A reality of WHO the americans are. They are the descendants of those hardworking immigrants whom made USA great, along thankfully with the noble and courageous founding fathers' sacred constitution.

Americans are only humans. With flaws like anyone else. And bled the same as anyone else. Yet...americans created a stable society, even though there were mistakes along the way, but also, an impetous and national desire to rectify ithem, not just for onself, but for all and future generations when it counts.

So too can Bulgarians.

There will always be some whom will milk the system for benefits, but not only solely the gypsies. Also bulgarians too. Good and bad exists in ALL humanity.

If the supposed 'affirmative actions' to help the gypsies to blend in to bulgarian society did not help, it only means it had failed, and its implementation is flawed, and needs CORRECTION to determine better policies, just as the american red indians had improved and are no longer dependent on 'reservations' to survive.

Such corrections will not come overnight. It will take time. But the 1st step, like all necessary changes, begins with you and me, to seek for the truth, to discuss and debate with our families and social networks, to find solutions. And then when the critical mass is achieved, change will happen, without any more hurt or harm to precious human lives, no matter how impossible it may seem to us, for we only look at the problems as one. We are powerless as one, but when combined with our families and social network, yours and mine, we represent societies, if not mankind itself.

Sorry for my long post, but thanks for reading if you got to here. Good Luck! :-)

Question is, who do you identify with?
Many in my coutnry of birth identify with being Hungarian. To some extent I do too.
Those do not identify with Gypsies. Although they mostly speak the same language,
America is an experiment of the Enlightenment Age. For a long time, as the above post quotes, it was primarily the disaffected and disowned from Europe identified as Americans. I do too, I settled in the US and received citizenship, and part of me is American. I think in that language, raised my daughter as American and correspond with people. I voted for president several times.
Americans were thought to be immune to nationalism.
Recently however we can see that too (not in this thread, in other posts.)

From this double identity I do not identiffy as a Hungarian and a non-Gypsy. (Moreover, I have Italian roots and a lot of German ancestors adn a Jewish wife.)

At the same time, I cannot sympathize with criminal gangs, and a devolving human civilization.
Let's face it, most uneducated masses of Eastern European Roma would not care a bit about my enlightened opinion about their ethnic group. If I side with those that persecute them - I would be classified as a bad white man - but as long as they can take my money, I would be a good white man. Until next time.
Those that are curious are elevated above their tribal standards and are more educated.

I knew one Roma activist and two Roma geniuses personally.

This would be perhaps solved by a decent social order but we are clearly on the way to a Mad MAx type of scenario here so it remains a dream.

Opposites sometimes attract each other in karmic philosophy though.

I think we are witnessing the results of a disasterous muliticultural experiment.

Or maybe this is the plan? If history is anything to go by we all know what nationlism results in. I hope not, but fear it is going to be so.

TPTB know that multiculturism has Never worked.
It is human nature to like people who are like them, and to dislike those who are different.
No pushing them together and no law will ever change that.

Why can't "they" just leave us alone?
They must enjoy the strife and spilling of blood.
They have been promoting this sort of thing for thousands of years.
