It is things like these that convince me that all the doom and gloom threads a doomed for the hoax bin.

I for one ,really believe in the future. I believe man gets it together. New inventions are coming into existence on a daily basis almost. I also think man is going to uncover things that have been suppressed for quite a long time. Yes, I do believe the Jetson age is right around the corner.

I remember when a friend of mine use to wish we had a way of carrying our computers around on our belt or something, and wouldn't it be so cool. This was at the most 10 years ago, but here we are now with our computers on our phones.

I suppose what I am going to post below will be the next obvious step.

One question could be, does this make us more borg like? Do we lose some of our humanness in this process? Yes, we may become a lot smarter with so much instant information right before our eyes, (literally), but what might we lose?

One other question could be, is this our technology ,or Alien perhaps? If we keep going at this rate, would we not end up at that point or appear to be alien if one from 1772 were to stumble across us?

Anyhow, here is what I came here for and I think it is pretty cool, and shouldnt be long before it is main stream.

Okay, this is just freaky. We know LED lights are versatile enough to be used for practically anything, but LED contact lenses? Really?! Yes, as it turns out, really. University of Washington researchers have figured out how to implant semitransparent red and blue LED lights in contact lenses, for the purpose of receiving and displaying data in sharp visual images and video. This means wearers will literally be able to watch TV or view photos that are projected directly onto their eyeballs. Once miniature green LEDs are developed (and they’re in the works, as of now), full color displays will be possible. Once that happens, the possibilities are endless. Think about everything your smart phone can do right now, and imagine the same being possible for your eyeball. This news is a little scary and a lot fascinating, if you ask me—at the very least, with LED contact lenses, your hands would be free to pet your robot or tinker with your hover board.

very cool..but I don't think it'll have much to do with our humanity or the losing of it. humanity is just a reference point for what the generally accepted cultural behavior is at the time. humanity will always try to be rooted in decency and kindness I think. but the augmentation of the human body is just like customizing a car. just more bells and whistles

If it's driven the same way most other technological innovations on this planet are driven...our 'free hands' will be tinkering with either a gun or our genitals, not a hover board.

I can't stand contacts though...shame.

great, now the controlled media will be able to send their shi# straight to your brain via a contact lens.....wonderful, you'll be able to watch all of the good times reruns straight from your eyeball and see glenn beck and his crew of clown peers brainwashing you even more conveniently......

Oh Crap...that's cool as long as they keep it as contacts and not make it direct implants. Video games could be made to require motion sensor rooms to play in, basically like a Holodeck from Star Trek.

Pretty Cool

When I see things like this I wonder about the possible strain on the eyes
and if it affects their focus to the point that it becomes difficult to see..

I'm still very interested in the potential applications for such leds.

I wouldn't personally want this, but I'm sure most people would. I don't see this as borg like, it's not until information is being fed directly to the brain with some kind of brain microchip or something. I think that's where the line is really.

What is this business about petting my robot? I never heard it called that before.

Porn is most certainly going to take on a whole new Renaissance.

LOL...just had a mental image of someone in a 'virtual game' using these things, running smack into their living room wall!

(i know, warped sense of humour)

The rational bit of me agrees with you mate...but the conspiracy theorist part of me would be suspicious that subliminal programming would be going on every time you wore them.
