the shores of enemy occupied france during ww2. but with an amarda of alien spacecraft, flying through the void of our milky way galaxy, their
mission..."target earth"...then placing into orbit around our planet mother ships, like interstellar aircraft carriers, sending down wave after wave,
thousands of assault craft, some robotic drones, some piloted by aliens. just when would we detect their approach? as they passed mars, or the moon?
if we even could at all. they might approach earth from the direction of the sun. then our ground based space observations would not be able to detect
them coming...heres an alien invasion link >>> en.wikipedia.org...
Why do people even need to ask this question?
No. The answer is simply no, and thinking anything else is pure delusion. If an interstellar race of malevolent beings wanted to destroy humanity/the
Earth, not you, nor I, nor even Will Smith would be able to stop them.
Lets look at the issue for a minute.... In your example, the aliens are obviously interstellar travelers, and reasonably we must conclude that they
have FTL travel, because travel between star systems without it would be tedious to the point where it would lack value to do so.
So basically they have warp technology. We can reasonably assume that all other technological branches would also be in the same general ball park as
the warp tech, including genetics, robotics, nanotechnology, and most assuredly, weapons technology.
You also say they are hell bent on destroying Earth. Fantastic. With warp technology and advanced weaponry, theres no logical reason those two things
wouldnt be combined to basically give you the inter-stellar version of the ICBM, only with warheads thousands or millions or more times as powerful.
So really an invasion would just be silly; they would just launch the super nukes from a thousand light years away and monitor their progress remotely
as they warped towards Earth.
Theres really hundreds of different ways the hypothetical evil aliens could extinguish humanity without really lifting the proverbial finger, and with
humanity having zero chance of survival. Think about it; get creative with it... if you can think of it, a species with FTL technology and a desire to
destroy the planet (or even just humanity selectively) will have no problem thinking of it too.
The probable disparity between the two sides is difficult for many folks to imagine. Instead of "evil aliens VS humanity", think more of... iron
cutting blow torch VS stick of pre-warmed butter... and itll put the situation in perspective.
