Said it before and will say it again - a substantial threat you'd assume would mean they'd shut down certain air traffic routes. Unless anyone knows any different, that doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe ELENIN is altering their perception of reality. Anyway, fun day tomorrow, eh

I really hope it lands somewhare in the US becouse were the ones that launched the stupid thing

That's a very solid point.... Why wouldnt they ground all flights??? If this thing is falling to Earth on its own and there are roughly 50,000 flights per day, you would think that there would be a chance, slight chance, of it hitting a plane in route.... Odds of it happening are very slim, but crazier things have happened...

I do not have a bet, but I HOPE it hits the "Jersey Shore" house while they are filming

My Guess is the Kremlin because we are just that unlucky...

thank for posting this. I think more than likely it will hit the ocean but if they can give us a time then we know what area to leave. More than likely it will not hit North America but if it hits earlier or later it might. It looks like everyone is a possible target for this thing.

i cannot beleive that if it lands in my back garden, i'm not allowed to keep it.

yeah thats where it'll land. either that or your right and it'll land on earth.

PS. If i find it i'm keeping it.

Everyone fill up on fuel an have a bug out bag just in case. Prepare for the worst an hope for the best.

About a 75% chance, but calculating the debris trail will lower that considerably if such trail could become up to 500 miles in length.

The real question with that in mind is, would you bet high on those odds in Vegas?

surface area of earth, 197 million sq miles
50,000 flights per day, but lets say only 10,000 are in flight at any one time.

Lets say the average 2 dimensional area (looking top-down) of an aircraft winds up to be 2000 sq ft, and this allows jets to be mixed with piper cubs..... That is 20 million sq ft / 5780 = 3,460 sq miles of looking top down surface area for aircraft.
So now we have 197million sq miles / 3460 sq miles = 56,936.4162, or one chance in 57000 that a piece of this satellite can hit an aircraft (given some pretty conservative figures). Obviously, where it actually comes down, and the traffic density of that area is a whole new ballgame.... These are just predict odds.

-----ahhh a fundamental error - a square mile is 33 408 400 ft, so .598651836 sq miles is surface area of the aircraft,so

197 000 000 / .598651836 = 329 072 740 or one chance out of 329 million that a piece of this satellite can hit an aircraft
