Yes it is cold down there! I've made more than my fair share of 1000+' dives in the GoM and even off of Brownsville Tx at that depth we have to wear "hot water suits" that circulate warm water through our umbiliclas a lot of the time because the water gets pretty cold. At around 300m the temp can drop to 50 degrees if there are many cold seeps near and at 100m the temp hovers around 40 degrees.
