After legendary singer Tony Bennett blamed the US (on the Howard Stern Show) for the 9-11 attacks on the US in 2001, there is much talk of banning radio airplay of his songs - including his new recording 'Duets'.

Do you agree with the punishment of the entertainer?

How ridiculous.

Oh yeah, and isn't America meant to be about free speech or something? I used to know, but the memory of free speech is fading so rapidly that I can no longer be sure.

Think I'll go play a Tony Bennett song now.....

I haven't heard a Toney Bennett song on the radio in years. So how could not playing his songs be a punishement? I thought he was dead, so, he could be an example for that thread floating around on ATS, because I was surprised to read he is still alive.

He is entitled to his opinions, so, no, I don't agree with this kind of punishment.

When I was in college I took a course called history of the modern middle east.We had middle easterns in there and I became friends with them. Now mind you this is right before Iran's gov. crumbled and they took our embassy hostage.
They were nice enough to explain about their religion and gov. for us, and we talked about alot of subjects. But once the Americans had been taken hostage they clammed up and became very uncomfortable. Finally We got them to talk a bit about it,and it seemed that there was alot of issues with how americans were perceived in other countries.
Now I'm not trying to be unamerican or anything, but our gov.has meddled in other govs affairs in that area for a very long time, The cia has set up puppet govs and removed any that they felt didn't have 'our' best interests at heart. It has created alot of discontent in that area for us.I don't feel someone's music should be banned from the radio just because we don't like what they have said. Can't really call ourselves a 'free' country if we do that can we?
Nor does it make sense to become enraged at someone everytime they point out what our gov has done to create instability in that area. Even if they did it with us unaware of what they were doing.
I'm hoping this all makes sense cause I just woke up lol, so excuse me if it doesn't. anyway thats my take on it.

Tony Bennett has been promoting his "new" recording project "DUETS" all year. It was released yesterday - that's why he was on the Howard Stern program - promoting this long-awaited recording project which includes the last recorded song by Amy Whinehouse (who died last summer in case you didn't know that either). An early release of the Amy Whinehouse/Tony Bennett song has been played extensively on the radio airwaves the past couple of weeks. He's getting more airplay than Lady Gaga these days!

The feeling is that he abused his "promote the new recording project" to express unfavorable opinions of the USA while expecting to make yet more millions of dollars off Americans (while he's shoving another hot red poker up Americans' behinds). Yeah, it's free speech - but doesn't make for good business sense on Bennett's part.
