Paronychia is an infection and painful swelling of the folds around the finger or toenails.
It can be chronic or acute, and have several, sometimes unknown causes.
However, chewing the fingernails to stumps, or tearing the edges may well develop into Paronychia.

It ranges in severity, but it is usually very painful.

I wonder if anybody can share some tips or treatments?

Just to think: while biting your nails stressing over everything, you might get yourself something extra to worry about!
And I'm speaking from experience - ouch!

Yikes!

I recently read that computer keyboards are some of the most microbe infested areas in the house.
Especially when people eat and type!

I actually think there's something to that theory.
I mean, how would one really sterilize it?

Mine must be worse than a cutting board in a busy restaurant by now.

Body art quality henna will cure fungal issues (skin, scalp, etc) but you will have to deal with your fingers being stained a reddish-orange color until it wears off (about a month on the skin, forever on the nail) but it is an all-natural way to handle the problem and has been used for thousands of years for medicinal purposes. Essential oils can be added. I have read that Paronychia can be a bacterial or fungal issue, so this may be an option depending on the cause...

Totally guilty of this but it also makes me think how awesome my immune system must be with all that bacteria.
