Points that influence my opinion:
1. It's the only democracy around that area. I support it for being a democracy.
2. The money we send to Israel is spent on American armament, so it comes home for jobs. That's ok, 'cause we would spend it anyway in the defense budget. We do that with other countries, too, like recently Taiwan. It's a good plan unless you want these allies to fall to their superior neighbors. I personally like supporting democracies.
3. 700 Club showed some reporter in Jerusalem years ago with a live report on troublemaking there. He showed the Moslem quarter with a noisy Jewish parade going through. The Moslem said that they could not do that in the Jewish quarter, and that an parade as such needed a permit. He said the Jews do that a lot because if there is retaliation, it makes the news and everyone supports the Jewish quarter at the expense of the Moslem quarter. Therefore, if you have any control of the media, your position is heard and the opposition is not.
4. Jews and Palestinians are Semites, so I don't understand when Jews call others Anti-Semitic, when they are themselves Anti-Semitic toward the Palestinians.
5. I know it's a Jewish state, but I just can't get my head around the idea of a state being built around one religion. It goes against anything American. To become a citizen of Israel, you must be a Jew, which means you must be born of a Jewish mother. That just sounds so wrong, but I guess it has to be that way to be a Jewish state. How did we ever get into this mess? The Holocaust.

Other than that, I'm good. Your thoughts?

Look how the ignorant OP calls the Palestinians "terrorists" and acts as if everything Israel has done is in retaliation or out of protection. I think the OP needs to go and research Israeli false falg operations like 'the lavon affair' and the 'USS Liberty' just to name a couple.

I wonder how the OP would like having his land stolen, his house blown up, his family killed, and then to be called a terrorist if he even thinks of fighting back?

Heres just one of the many more reminders for the blind OP of how Israel came about; an Israeli terrorist by the name of Menachem Begin planned the destruction of the King David Hotel and the massacre of Deir Yassin(go and do some research OP, your blindness is sickening, zionists and their sympathizers have a disease).

The OP also needs to research 'jews against zionism' and ask himself why there are many jews who are against zionism and the illegal state of Israel.

May 1948 Israel was formed to provide a "safe" place for Jewish people to call home within the boundaries of Ancient Israel.. Since being reformed in 1948 it was attacked in 1963 in which it destroyed Egypt, Jordan and Syria in 6 days. Then in 1973 they fought off both Egypt and Syria again and since 1978 they have been under constant terrorist attacks killing many of their men women and children.Every time they strike back at the ones attacking them they are called criminals and promptly judged the bad guys The Israeli people live in constant fear of attacks they are surrounded by countries who refuse to even acknowledge their existence as a state...

Wait! What's that I hear?

A tiny tiny violin playing a teeny weeny little sad melody.

Who cares about Israel??? Not me. Let them clean up their own mess. They can afford to do it, believe me.

The USA needs to STOP trying to make everyone else's life better and take care of it's own. Stop policing the world and tend to it's own shores.

peace

A pretty inspiring article.
A Zionist Fights For Palestinian Rights

I caught a piece of the article I liked very much.

“There were certainly those Zionists who were exclusionary and didn’t want to share the land with the Palestinians. But there were also the early socialist Zionist pioneers who wanted to share the land and saw themselves co-inhabiting with the Palestinians as the forefront of the workers’ revolution. Although I believe in the right of Jews to live in Israel and for the state to exist, Jewish biblical tradition states that justice and human rights triumph over establishing a greater Israel. If territorial compromise means avoiding bloodshed then it is a no-brainer.”

Kind of reminds me of the current U.S. Government, and how they ignore and distort facts just to get what they want leaving the people out to dry.

so much of the argument eventually comes from "they are gods chosen people, yadda yadda. that land was given to them by god, holy land" etc

why, in any religious persons mind does that mean that WE, the united states of america, or WE as mere mortals can have an affect on it?

god "says" (through our ancestors btw, not its own mouth) that that land is to be protected, and if that is so, then why does need help from us humans? if god thinks something should be protected, it will be. may it have been protected centuries ago? it couldve been, i cant say for sure, but that should be taken into account, right?

if it cant "defend" israel, then is it even trying? this is supposed to be GOD, omnipotent, all powerful

but just cant keep away the missiles and hate? coincidence?

and dont come at me with that "those who bless israel be blessed" and vice versa, because we are cursed. that should be obvious by now. anyone that thinks this country is still blessed is either living an illusion, or they are prophiting from it, so dont see anything wrong. we are still holding them above water and we dont seem to be getting any blessings these days

let god defend his own land, it should be a piece of cake

You can support Israel, just not at the expensive of my tax payer money and not at the expense at our military men and women. We have no business sending billions to Israel like this, it has abolsutely nothing to do with the defense of home ground. We have no business having troops in that country.

Seriously # Israel, they think that just because some stupid ass book that was written and re-edited hundreds of times by people they assume were "sane" when they could have been anybody, mentally ill or not, says the jews were "god's" chosen people that they can deny archaeological and anthropological history prooving that the jews were not the first ones to inhabit Israel and that the Palestinians WERE THERE FIRST and make Palestinian's lives miserable by bulldozing their homes and stealing their land? Seriously?!?! Anyone who would support such hateful and ignorant people are just as blind and ignorant as them IMHO. I hate all religions but zionist jews take the cake for being the biggest assholes.

I think you are seriously mixing up the Palestinians with the Philistines. Indeed, there is archaeological evidence of a race in the land before the Hebrews arrived, but they are NOT Palestinians. The name Palestine didn't exist until the Romans arrived, and was a Latin translation o0f the name 'Philistine', who were old enemies with Israel. The idea behind this was to distance Israel from any sense of identity or affiliation with the land. There is sufficient evidence to prove there was an existing Israeli constructed temple on the current site in Jerusalem. The stones located at the 'Wailing wall' date back to 2nd temple period. The stones at the base of the temple mount on the other side (Moselm quarter of the city) close to the Mount of Olives are even older and date back to the time of Solom circa 1000 BC (approx). Whether solomon existed or not is not my point. Evidence points to Israel's presence there some 3,000 years ago.

Under the definition of Palestinian, that would be anyone who lived in this land during its time of occupation. That would be Jew and Arab. Palestinian is NOT a race. They are Arabs, semitic people. Philistines were non semitic people and unrelated to the Arab demographic that calls itself Palestine/Palestinian of today. Israel made a declaration of Independance in 1948 declaring the state of Israel. If the 'Palestinians' were smart, they would have done exactly the same thing in 1948, declaring the rest of the partitioned land as an independant Palestinian state. But they didn't. Why not? Attacking a newly formed state on 5 fronts doesn't not constitute a peace partner. Please also explain to me who was/were the representatives of the Palestinian people prior to Yasser Arafat (who was an Egyptian anyway), say around 1967. Oh wait, there was no Palestinie demanding Jerusalem as it's capital. Jerusalem was already capital of...Trans Jordan! Yes, the Jordanian people were really the oppressors of the palestinians, refusing them sovereignty in the land they occuppied. It didn't become an issue, and there were no demands for an independant palestinian state until Israel was attacked and they retook Jerusalem.

THAT is being a hippie lib. viewing an incredibly complex political situation through a lense of "im on the side of the oppressed just because they look oppressed"....if a traitor to ones country is caught and he gets tortured, any person who doesnt know the situation and saw this would be horrified , outraged how could you do this to this INNOCENT man!!! Not that an enemy of the state should definitely be tortured..but thats neither here nor there...the point is...people need to look at WHY the palestinans are appearing as victims not just THAT they are.

I agree 100% with your post.

People literally support the 'oppressed side' at first glance. I mean, the United Nations cannot be wrong in it's condemnation of Israel right? The 'International Community' cannot be wrong either? It's a safe bet to jump on the side of the apparent majority when it concerns whether Israel is right or wrong in how it defends itself.

This is the inherent danger of jumping aboard the 'group think' train, they are usually too arrogant to question themselves. They already feel justified as they have elected to side with the masses.

Israel is in a unique geographical and strategic position and therefore unless you actually live in Israel or have at least investigated the Arab-Israeli conflict from both sides impartially and objectively, you are not in a valid position to cast an informative judgement, let alone, the usual broad, sweeping statements.

There is good reason why the Arab-Israeli conflict remains unsolved for such a long period of time. Yet, so many posters have such a black and white view of the situation. To have that black and white view of this conflict, is to admit that you don't know what you are talking about.

The only act that can be considered as murder by Israel, is that of the assassination of Hamas terrorist members.

Sorry, you may see them as 'freedom fighters'?

Ok correction, freedom fighters that want to wipe Israel from the map, as per their charter.

can anyone explain to me in layman terms why both Isreal and the US seem to be #ing themselves over Palestines bid for statehood?
Why MUST it only be decided by direct talks that will never work anyway? (because history has shown they cant agree on the color of #)

Looks like you need to pay a little bit more attention to what's going on over there. Because the terrorist running Israel is doing that to the Palestinians.
