Merkel likely to be kicked out of power within 2 weeks

That would be sweeeeeeeeet.

As a reminder, Germany is a parliamentary democracy, her party and another have a coalition to be in power. At any point in time, the opposition can bring a motion of non-confidence in the government, if it passes, the current government falls and new elections are done.

Merkel coalition fears collapse after election humiliation

Angela Merkel's government suffered a humiliating defeat to the opposition Social Democrats and Greens in key city state elections in Berlin last night as divisions within her coalition over the Greek debt and the future of the euro deepened further.

They got their butts kicked. Merkel's party have lost 6 of the last 7 elections.

The Merkel government faces its next major test in just under two weeks when, as part of its plans to rescue Greece, parliaments meet to ratify boosting the lending capacity of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) from €250bn to €440bn. With opposition increasing from within her own ranks, Ms Merkel cannot be certain of a majority.

The Chancellor has indicated that she may have no option but to rely on the votes of opposition Social Democrats and Greens to get the measure through parliament. Observers predict that, if she takes this course, she will be forced to hold a parliamentary vote of confidence in her government, which would almost certainly result in the end of her administration.

The Social Democrats and Greens need to do it and force Merkel to get the hell out.

But the Social Democrats aren't much better.

Mr Gabriel, the SPD leader, indicated yesterday that, if this were the outcome, his party would be prepared to allow Ms Merkel to continue as head of a minority government for an interim period to enable it to save the single currency.

So the SD are led by euro shills it seems...

Germany needs to elect a government that will get Germany out of the doomed Euro!

Sadly i dont think the party will do or be any different then Merkel

I'm struggling to see how this is a plus. Merkel's shrewd financial management has kept Germany relatively unscathed in the current crisis - so much so that she's been called upon repeatedly to bail out Greece and others. If Germany pulls out of the Euro, what then?

I think the collapse of the Eurozone and of the Euro itself are both inevitable regardless, but losing Merkel will only make that happen much more quickly.

The vote in Germany for the EFSF is on September 29.

Hopefully Merkel gets the boot and it doesn't pass. That would be sweet.
