Elenin orbital diagram altered by NASA? Could the BIG Doom date be 3 days early?!?!

How is it that you have not heard that Elenin is gone
and yet you still post info like this?

Elenin is no more son. Get with the times...

Whether or not X1 Elenin has disintegrated or not, it is safe to avoid wasting 10 minutes of your time and ignoring this video. Sorry OP, but the video references Elenin.org website, which is not official in anyway, and more importantly has broken source data.

Originally Elenin.org was using data from the navy's elenin data which included the Stereo A and B satellite data.
But instead of the Stereo satellites, it now shows two Earth-Sun distances.

It's broken. Therefore unreliable.

Just 'cause "it's not there" doesn't mean "it's not there"

1....they say it has broken up and is now a cloud of debris.

2....Who cares when it lines up between us and the sun???

3....It is or was a really small comet, millions of miles away that will have no effect on earth.

I wish the stupidity with this thing would stop, there are enough threads right here on ATS and plenty of nasa and non-nasa sites that show what and where elenin is. Do some research on reputable sites and leave the youtube rubbish alone.

"It broke up" seems kind of convenient, no? The fact is 99.9% of people cannot see Elenin, or anything in space very well. We rely on NASA and other government agencies to tell us the truth.

Again, if a "Deep Impact" situation were to happen, they WOULD NOT warn us, period.

Except NASA or the government has nothing to do with observing Elenin. All of the observational data that goes in to creating Elenin's orbit diagram comes from the Minor Planet Center. The MPC is a small, independent, organization that takes confirmed observations from astronomer, both amateur and professional, and uses that data to calculate orbital characteristics and diagrams. It has absolutely nothing to do with NASA or the government, instead it is under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union. So if something were amiss pretty much every astronomer in the world would have to be in on it.

Except the guy that viewed and reported the breakup is trust worthy. It broke up and even if it didn't it wouldn't have hit earth anyway...

Trustworthy to who? And who says this organization has nothing to do NASA or governments? I will research it, but it's unlikely it's 100% possible to prove it is independent.

As has been mentioned already the Elenin.org orbital diagram is severely flawed. We have looked at the source code for it and it is way off. So much so that it looks like it was purposefully done that way. To further illustrate how wrong it is, there is a picture of the JPL orbit diagram in one of these threads from March 30. It does not match up at all with the Elenin.org orbital diagram.

Anyone else find this timing funny ?

Again, Elenin did not break up, it exhausted it's tail and what is left is a rather large rock about 2 miles wide which according to one NASA site has it impacting the earth off the Alaskan-Russian coast. They screw up the date so you won't panic, riot in the streets, steal Tv's, and pillage and rape thinking the world is going to end. So you won't know about it until it hits the Earth and the sky darkens and the world experiences a global earthquake. And since there will be no electrical power and all the nuclear power plants will go hot, you won't have to worry about it anyway.

The comet has broken up but has NOT evaporated. According to Leonid Elenin, It is only in smaller pieces.


But as for the breakup This is what Leonid Elenin has to say:

Such a breakup of small comets passing near the Sun is not rare, and in that is nothing surprising. I note that this is a breakup, not an explosion. All the pieces continue to move on the comet’s trajectory. The large fragments are likely to continue to disintegrate into smaller ones.

Overall, the most scientifically interesting thing is the breakup scenario, but unfortunately right now the comet is not visible to the largest telescopes or even the Hubble Space Telescope because of its close angular distance from the Sun (small elongation). On the other hand, amateur astronomers, awaiting this comet which might have been visible to the unaided eye, will now not see it, at least visually in their telescopes and binoculars. We will wait for Sept. 23rd when the comet is due to appear in the field of view of the SOHO space coronagraph. Any result will tell us what we can expect at the beginning of October when the comet once again should appear in the pre-dawn sky. We will wait. The end of this story is near…

If you don't trust the MPC and IAU, then why even believe that Elenin exists at all? It is the IAU that verifies new findings and gives them their designation number. So if you don't trust the IAU you might as well assume that every discovery since 1919 doesn't exist. That means that not only is Pluto no longer a planet, it also means its nonexistent along with every other dwarf planet in the solar system, not to mention thousands of comets and asteroids.

If Elenin has "exhausted" its tail then it would be breaking up. The surface of a comet is thin and fragile. Under that a comet is composed of frozen volatile gases also known as ice. As the comet approaches the Sun these gases warm up and begin to melt, which then produces outgassing. It is this outgassing that produces both the coma and the tail. So, if these volatiles were gone the comet would be breaking up, as it pretty much has no core left.

Elenin will cross Earth's orbit millions of kilometers above the Earth. It passed the ecliptic a few days ago and will continue to go farther and farther above the Earth's orbit. Even when Elenin was in one piece its tail was too short to reach Earth at perigree.
