Looks like the line at a Pink Floyd concert I went to.

But hey, if THEY believe it, then more power to them.

I am confused with some of what you have stated and how you label it.

If the workers own the company, is the company not still privately owned by the workers? Wouldn't that mean it is still capitalism? Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production are privately owned, so if the workers own the company and share the profits of that company then the workers privately own the company. As the workers are a private group that owns the company.

To me that is still capitalism unless you mean to say that all companies are owned by any worker of any other company, that would be common ownership and would function more like state or federal parks. Socialism and Communism advocate common ownership in this manner or they advocate public ownership (state ownership), one or the other.

So do you mean that all workers everywhere own every company in common ownership?

OR

do you advocate that all the workers of a specific company own that specific company only?

The former would be socialism, the latter would be capitalism, to me it seems as though you describe capitalism with your thoughts and words but advocate socialism by semantic mistake. From your post I assume you advocate the latter and not the former and it seems clear to me, yet you don't think of the workers privately owning the company as capitalism where it clearly is, unless you are talking about common ownership, which it seems clear to me you have not described.

Could you speak to this point? Or explain how I have mis-understood what you wrote? Thanks.

I've been watching some of it and its pretty painful.
I wouldn't be surprised if they all go home in a few hours.

They might know how get their words across on the internet, but they just have no idea on how to speak in public.
There's no organization either.

Its actually pretty embarrassing to watch.

This will be squashed by the media because it is scaring the politicians and the wealthy. This is the only way to have voices heard that do not have any other way. I vote, always have, but with all the lies coming out of their mouths, you have no idea who you have voted for. I hope and pray the protestors can find a way to stick it out until they can't be ignored.

This is new to these people, they have occupied the comftable middle-class for so long that they are a little rusty at rebellion.
Anonymous will eventually step in and organise things (I hope)

www.zerohedge.com...

There's all you need to know about this latest attempt to occupy Wall Street (on a Saturday).

When people in other countries get shafted by the government and corporations, they riot and burn down buildings. Us citizens get their guns out and clean them!
Until and unless every working person's 401K has a 0 balance and they no longer receive government aid from our nanny state, they'll do mock demonstrations, cry and pout. Wall street is LAUGHING at this.

Well put.
Maybe they should do type-to-speech through their megaphones, let Alex or Samantha do the talking lol.

But yeah, I really hope Anonymous shows up soon before these silver spoon kids give em a bad name.

Ben is their friend.

On a side note, I wonder how many are going to bail so they can go watch the football games today.

Yeah I thought that was kinda the equivilent to having al-Queda show its support, lol
Its the usage and distribution of the little green bits of paper that is the problem so why burn the money?
I had a chuckle at that pic as well.

What we have today is NOT capitalism.

Free markets rise and fall based solely on innovation, supply and demand.

We have been subsidizing giant dinosaurs for decades.

You cannot simultaneously preach Capitalism and subsidize failing corporations.

It is a Fascist idea for the tax payers to shoulder the failures of corporatons, without getting to share in the profits.

Right now, Americans own a ton of their toxic debt, yet AIG execs get to party on our tax money.

We still do not have a capitalist system... YET.

I would have posted this earlier but I figured there would have already been a thread up on it. I know there were threads leading up to this, but not one for the actual event taking place right now.

The Occupy Wall Street protest kicked off today and is going very well. Tens of thousands of people have showed up in NYC and have been occupying all day and will continue to do so for the coming months. They are setting up a tent city. The police are allowing the event take place, they have hundreds of officers out. Wall Street itself has been blocked off and the bull statue has been barricaded and is guarded by dozens of officers. People are marching in parades and chanting, everyone has signs and several people have masks on to remain anonymous.

Everyone is getting free dinner at 6 pm and then an open mic will take place afterwards. Rappers Lupe Fiasco and Immortal Technique are both protesting with the crowd. Everything has been peaceful so far.

You can watch the protest live at: www.livestream.com...

There are occupations also taking place in San Francisco, London, Madrid, Milan, Cairo, Paris, Valencia, Lisbon and Athens. I'm hearing there are about 500 people already in San Fran and there's a nice crowd in Madrid as well.

Twitter has censored the hashtag #OccupyWallStreet from their trending topics list so everyone has switched to #TakeWallStreet which is trending worldwide and #4 in the New York area.

CNN has declared a media blackout on the event and the other networks are also refusing to even mention the event.

CNN has 'declared a media blackout'? Seems a bit pointless. Where and when did they declare this? I just posted your hashtag and nothing happened, perhaps there's just not enough people trending? By the way, what's the protest about?

The wealthy don't need to squash this because they're laughing at it anyway.

It's looking pretty sad from the view the live feed I've checked out, much less people than there were at first..
how do you protest something without any demands?

The people they have talking aren't very charismatic either, the crowd didn't seem too 'pumped.'
They let the police box them into a park.. wall street has been totally blocked off so in essence there is no 'occupation' of wall street, and now since their numbers have gone so far down the drain any attempt to get into wall street would be stomped down pretty fast.

Sorry, jumped the gun. The fact that CNN and all MSM has decreeded they will not show this protest. Is and should be an eye opening for all to see that MSM is corrupt. Just as corrupt as out political process. But let some news of Casey Anyhony or Michael Jacksons trial and they'll pre-emt their broadcast to bring you breaking news coverage. Bull#. America has been bought out by corporations and career politicians.
