So sad...

I have compassion for all life...
but I have an extra soft spot for people who are overwhelmed by tragedy at their job.

Looking at the body language of the rescuers and police on the scene, I think these poor men have perished
It sounds like the whole mine was flooded, even if they made it to some air pockets, the air would not last long and hypothermia would also set in fast. I hope I am wrong of course.

I live just down the road a few miles from the mine. Our prayers are with them and their families.

I feel for the families who are sitting waiting to find out which of the four men have been found dead. such a tragedy and i agree about the body language of the rescuers and police , they look like theyve lost hope.

Yeah Ponty is just up the road from me. I think this is looking very grim, 24 hours laters those men must be cold and wet, if they are still alive. I saw on the news that the rescue services are using specialist listening equipment but they couldnt hear anything.
I cant imagine what the families are going through at the moment, because the man who has died has not be identified, this is worse than not knowing.
Its a tragedy, and it still a reminder that in 2011 that there are still men out who does these extremely dangerous jobs. Im praying for them as this is the second tragedy the area has had in the last few days.

It's very sad for those involved, but does this really belong on ATS? I mean, this place is supposed to be about conspiracy theories, cover ups and stories behind the stories. Maybe I missed it, but this just seems like run of the mill news.

If only WB, if only.
I dont see how the rescuers can get into the mine anyway with the threat of imminent collapse at any moment. Also i have to say, hats off to Peter Hain, he handled the press really well.

One of the miners confirmed dead

Having looked at the underground map where they are trapped it looks like one of the most hostile work places ever. They only have crawl space at best and the river is flooding the tunnels

Yeah saw this on the news this morning. Really sad to say the least. One of those whom escaped the mine, was the son of the dead miner. I am myself dreading for the other 3 miners whom are trapped down there.

i saw the pictures of the inside of the mine, its pretty inhospitable, this is looking grimmer by the minute. Im starting to think the police and the rescue services are just going through the motions and that this is a retreaval not a rescue. I really really hope im wrong. But time is running out.

I think it is totally wrong to release that one of the miners is dead but unidentified.. I cant imagine what those poor families are going through knowing one is gone but who?

Very sad

My grandfather also worked & died in the mines in Wales, leaving my nan a widow with 6 young children.
Certainly a hard job that is still fraught with danger even 70+ years later.
My heart goes out to all those trapped, along with their families.
I pray that a miracle ensues, allowing all to get out safely ,to return home to their families.

They have been identified: I am however not going to disclose their names on here out of respect for their loved ones, worrying about them.

You can see their names on the link provided below.

One of them is dead but it is not known which one yet so each of those poor families must be going through hell wondering if it is their family member or not.

My own opinion is the same as Docs Wife unfortunately. I hope I am wrong though.
