Unfortunately this is extremely real --- in May of this year what is known as the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Product Directive went into law in the
European Union. This basically removed all Traditional Chinese Medicines, Indian Ayurvedic Medicines, a wide range of plant remedies, etc. - from
store shelves in Europe (EU). All can apply for the Traditional Herbal Registration - but it is unbelievably expensive - starting at 40k English
Sterling for a product with just one medicinal plant ingredient (like St. John's Wart). So far about 210-220 or so companies have applied for the THR
(registration) and about 105 products (must submit application for each) have been approved.
Right when this came into law, both the FTC and the FDA cracked down pretty hard on a lot of products in the United States that were making any kind
of medical claims (but were not medicines) - still ongoing and lots of them to be sure. Had to be done in a sense, but not very much of window for
companies to comply. Although should've been compliant to begin with...
So the vitamin supplements are next. It's not going to take "Everything off the shelves" - but it is going to put a lot of the smaller and
medium-sized companies out of business or force them to seriously scale back their operations.
That's the Obama Job Plan - Kill small business - make the Too Big's too fail so g* D'mned Big you'll have to make room in your bed for them to sleep.
Good idea to have a couch ready.
