Maybe it's the golf ball one of the astronauts hit from the moon. And the reason why the sky is blue is that this color has the shortest wavelength and therefore is more dispersed.

I must say the pics posted earlier in this thread look very similar to an egyptian mummy rollin down a sand dune

Actually I think it's the other way around. The blue sky reflects off the water making it blue-ish. If not then wouldn't the sky be brown and green over land? I'm sure there's a better explaination but I believe this to be somwhat accurate.

the color of the sky has to do with the particles in the air filtering out various wavelengths. thus the vibrant reds and oranges in sunsets after volcanic eruptions.

you might want to look up Rayleigh scattering to read more about this effect.
