Presidential debates are not debates at all not in the truest sense. they are auditions not unlike those actors go through to get hired in a movie or commercial.
the debates are not about the issues, they are about being the most "presidential." this is a sad state of affairs. It seems also that once issues are brought up, the person that bashes their opponent most effectively, not the most factual debater, is chosen as winner.

An example, Perry in the last debate admitted that he did the wrong thing with the executive order for the HPV vaccine, yet he is still being pushed to the front of the republican machine. his record is atrocious, his arrogance is better left 200 years in the cowboy past than on a stage with adults, discussing the future of the country.
I used Perry as an example however this is a bipartisan issue. Both parties are horrible about it and the MSM feeds upon it with glee.

how did the MSM get so far from actual values that Americans find to be important? Is it us. is the MSM only reflecting its society? is there a more insidious agenda in action, mind control through media?

how do we stop this? how do we reclaim the freedom to think for ourselves, as a society? it really depresses me every time i turn on the TV, so i don't turn it on anymore.

MODS:

perhaps this is a rant and belongs in that forum, that is however not for me to determine, please do so with my blessings mods. thank you

There are so many points where we slid a little further down the slope that picking one "turning point" is nigh impossible. From Washington and the whiskey rebellion, Hamilton and the first central bank, Lincoln and the war against states sovereignty, Wilson and the federal reserve, FDR and his socialist agenda. LBJ and the "great society", Carter and the dept of education(talk about misnomers), I could go on and on. The Constitution went from "Law of the Land" to a "bunch of suggestions". Now we are gathering speed and momentum and the crash will likely be fatal for our "republic".

perhaps then , the only solution is to ride it out and prepare to rebuild after the fall. do you think the system is too broken to fix? where would you start?

Well...

If you look back twenty years ago, maybe it is more like twenty-five years now, the various MSM outlets (T.V., Network News, Radio, Films, Bilboards, etc.) were owned by about 100 different people/corporations, now that number is 6. But things are getting better, last year that number was 5. I think it was our Founding Father Thomas Jefferson who charged the free press with the duty of keeping the government honest and in line. Another of the checks and balances that we are not supposed to think about anymore, kinda like anti-trust legislation.

But then again Thomas Jefferson was a terrorist, and so are Christians, let's listen in as some of our public servants are re-educated.

My apologies for using a video with Alex Jones voice in it, but the video was sent to him so guess we are stuck in this case.

So why can't we use the anti-trust legislation to bust this stuff up? Sshh, our Congressional Representatives are busy talking to lobbyists, we will have to wait our turn. The skeleton over in the corner? Oh that guy is next in line. Hope you brought a lunch.

I can't answer that without violating the T&C's. Suffice it to say that I consider the fall inevitable at this point unless we become an open dictatorship first.

because the MSM is paid and bought for.

viva la revolution

but seriously, i´m having a hard time figuring out how we can accomplish change in our current society.
that isn´t going to happen any time soon.

much of society is still asleep or refuses to wake up and just ignores what is going on. (my mum and dad)

i've lost all hope to be honest and am under the impression i'm going to spend the rest of my life in this rotten system

see, that is exactly what is bothering me as well. a lot of folks, perhaps most folks, dont even see this happening, they are blind, or complacent. as long as we just sit back and complain and do nothing more we are part of the problem not the solution. that is where my questions come from, where do we start and where do i sign up?

i am off to work will return in 10 hours. have a great day and an awesome discussion. peace

no stars? no flags? where is the love? lol

How do you mandate values and ideals? How many US citizens could understand the Constitution if they took the time to read it? How many people...religious or not...would demonstrate good morals and ethics if they stood behind an elderly person and watched them drop a 20 on the floor at a store and pick it up and give it to them?

How do you mandate real education...the kind that teaches abstract ideas, basic reading, writing, and arithmatic....do they even teach word problems anymore in math class? I deal with the public all day at my farm supply store..and too often I leave thinking that if the Chinese ever invade, we are really screwed.

How do you lead businesses to say it is OK to make money and a profit, but not at the expense of your employees and the people that support your business, and that you somehow owe a sense of gratitude and obligation to the country..ie America,..that helped you succeed and become wealthy?
How can a company not follow the logic of realizing.. That if everything is made overseas, how long before the money runs out at home and the unemplyed consumer can no longer afford their products.

Frankly, like the previous posters...I think we are so far over the cliff that we will have to crash and see who and what survives.

We lost america when the South lost the Civil War. Thanks to you yanks we now have a Totalitiarian government that you shoved down our throats 160 years ago and its been that way ever since.

Hah! All those people fighting for the Union got duped into thinking the Civil War was about slavery when it was a war over your personal rights, and your states rights to govern themselves without having Big Brother Fed shoved up your ass so far you don't know where it ends and you begin. The South asked for 20 years to change their economy so it wouldn't collapse, but Lincoln threw a tantrum and said "do it and do it now" like the dictator he was. THAT was the day the american people lost countrol of the United States and that was why Robert E. Lee rebelled.

My family never even owned slaves and we fought for the South because we knew damn well where the country would be later if we didn't and we were right.

Rant or not, here's my answer to your question; We "lost it" when Ronald Reagan decided to disband PATCO, which was in essence, the beginning of the end for organized labor and the voice of working people. Then, when Clinton gave in to his republican controlled congress and signed NAFTA into law and awarded China with the "Permanent Most Favored Nation's Trading Status," we began to hear that "Giant Sucking Sound," which was the sound of american jobs going overseas that Ross Perot so prophetically predicted during his presidential bid. This was the beginning of the mindset that "profits" are more important than "people."

Today, we are continuously exposed to rhetoric portraying a scenario where corporations are being suffocated by high taxes, (when in actuality, over 50% of american corps. pay zero dollars in tax) high labor cost and over-regulation. So to hear them tell it, all we need to do is to eliminate all taxes, OSHA, the NLRB and the minimum wage and then re-legalize slave labor. Oh yeah, we also have to eliminate the EPA, make it perfectly legal for corporations to pollute at will and open our national parks, wilderness areas and shorelines to energy exploitation. (Seems like I remember us once forming a national super-fund for the clean up of environmental contamination left behind by unregulated corporations in the past. ie: Love Canal

So, I guess that the short answer is that, as soon as we award corporations with free and open access to our nation's natural resources, allow them to pollute at will, pay zero taxes, employ slave labor and ignore any and all worker safety regulations, then jobs will return to America and everything will return to "Normal." Did I mention that these god-like corporations also what complete control over our elected officials via unlimited lobbying and campaign donations?

At this point, I fully expect to hear them voice their support for a constitutional amendment to remove the word "People" from any and all language contained therein. So it looks like the sooner we adopt the mentality that we are a nation "Of, By & For" corporations, the sooner we can settle back and enjoy our newfound enslavement.

Good lists of those events that led to loss of our republic, they were all major contributing events. I am surprised no one mentioned what I believe is the most significant event in recent times contributing to that erosion, 9-11. With Patriot Act and many behind-the-scenes actions we lost more of our freedoms and liberty than any for the past 150 years.

Very true about the Civil War. Best way to cover the facts, canonize and make Lincoln a hero and savior of our Union. I believe that is when we became corporate America, or THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. It makes me nervous when I see legal documents naming people in all-caps like corporate titles. That is where we lose our identity or become identified as something we are not. Didn't that start in Lincoln's time? With our first Republican president we lost our republic.

I would like to offer a solution but I don't really know one. The best I can do is to pass along the information and hope more people begin to understand what is happening. Few really want to face this or just dismiss it altogether. I have tried to do so all my life. I am retired now, too old for hand-to-hand combat but still trying to do my part in the information war. For my peace-of-mind and to take my deserved rest I have left the USof A. My days are rapidly coming to a close but I sincerely hope the current and coming generations can deal with this more effectively. My 60's generation of folks were on the right track but became marginalized.

Don't lose hope and keep fighting the good fight. Remember there is more to freedom than the power to choose CNN over Fox over MSNBC. Americans by and large do not know what it is like in the rest of the world. Be prepared for some surprises. It is not the Stone Age elsewhere when you cross the border. You may be quite surprised just how backward the US is in many regards.

America was great until Nixon introduced HMO's, Reagan started deregulation, Clinton started Nafta, and Bush finished destroyed our nation.
