In the last several days, many small earthquakes have occurred near the epicenter of the infamous 1959 7.3 Hebgen Lake quake- which was so powerful it created a new lake and a new geyser in Yellowstone, as well as caused 28 deaths and 76 million dollars in damage. It also caused multiple landslides.

These new quakes are happening here, just miles from the 7.3 epicenter:

www.seis.utah.edu...
See upper left yellow squares.

The epicenter of the 2.2 is here, marked by the green arrow, and the other recent quakes are in a similar location:
g.co...

The epicenter of the 1959 quake was here (after a relocation of epicenter occurred using more modern methods):
earthquake.usgs.gov...

I had a couple of pictures prepped which make this a lot clearer to see the relative locations, but the ATS media portal keeps giving me errors on upload- and that is rare. Never really had much trouble uploading pics before.

But in any case, I think you get the idea.

It appears there is small activity now on fault extensions of the Hebgen Lake fault. May be nothing, but certainly worth keeping an eye on!

Hold on to your hats, everyone!

Very interesting and informing read. Hope nothing bad comes of it, kinda cool how it made a whole new lake.

Thanks for the heads up TA. I'm sure you've seen the chatter on the '188 day quake square' that basically says the US/West Coast is due on the 15th. Would be really crazy if something did happen to pop there in the next 24.

Stay safe y'all.

huh?

Till what? The big one?

Who knows. This is a "just take note" post- not trying to fearmonger, but when multiple small quakes happen that close to a fault known to produce big quakes like the 7.3, it is worth posting for the heads up.

Yeah, in the last few days, not exactly now, I corrected the title.

Of course hundreds to thousands of quakes happen in Yellowstone every year. But the particular location of these near the Hebgen Lake epicenter warrants vigilance.

Do you have a link or is that just a doomsayer prediction?

I've come to expect warnings of famines, floods and pestilence on ATS.
I appreciate you taking the time to note something that concerns you.
But...
In a Geologically active area what is unusual about what you are reporting?

that map sure is making its rounds ... i still lean toward Utah/NV
and this latest swarm only reaffirms that opinion.

189 days between 2/27/2010 (Conception, Chile) and 9/4/2010 (Christchurch, NZ) but that's the dateline coming into play. I used MSM news links (American-based) so when you cross the dateline it adds a day.

I'll be checking ATS quite frequently today.

Don't hold your breathe, you're going to have to wait until the 16th to see if anything is going to happen.
