There is not that much significance really except that it was used as marker of knowledge like Sirius B was when it was discovered. If you tell people that we were more advanced scientifically in the past than what we are now people will not believe you. No sorry but there is no such thing as a divine rapture. You should think of the bible as a computer program, or a set of instructions rather than a total literal description. Some people intend separate themselves from the general population in case things turn bad, if that's what you are referring to it is something you need to be proactive about and it will not be handed to you on a silver platter.
