The "Freak Out" factor

1. The government [powers that be] doesn't know because the Aliens are afraid the governments [powers that be] will freak out. Governments [powers that be] probably have much more to lose than the average citizen if existence becomes common knowledge.
2. The government(s) does know, but the government doesn't want people to know, because it/they will lose power and control over people.

Short of Aliens butchering people for meat, the average person has MUCH less to lose and adapts much more readily than the entrenched powers that be [financial institutions, governments, corporations, religions].

Short of being Alien meat, bring on the Aliens.
